    1. [GAWALKER] BROWING, BROWNING
    2. Seeking information Washington L. Browning (or Browing) who lived in Walker county in 1860, 1870 and 1880. He was born about 1828 and died after 1880. His wife's name was Martha and known children were: James R., Elizabeth, Dennis and Mary. I am trying to establish if his daughter Elizabeth is the same Elizabeth that married Charles Robert (Charlie) Salmon about 1881 and who lived in Chattooga and Floyd counties. Linda Avery

Lucimac Thanks so much for the message. Here is my story. My grandmother, Martha Matilda Catherine DAVIS Morgan had three cousins that I had searched for for several years, thirty as a matter of fact. In the last few years I have found them. My grandmother's uncle, William Davis, married Francis Hilburn in about 1858 0r 1859. I can not find them on the 1860 census and by 1870 both were dead leaving three orphan children, Sarah Ann Samantha, William Levi, and George W. Davis. They were living in DeKalb in 1870 with a non family member, atleast I can not find a connection. In 1880 Sarah was living with her uncle and his family J.J. Hilburn in Walker co. His wife was the Stokes. Also living with them was James Huskey who Sarah married the next year. Huskey deserted her and her kids and she lived the rest of her life in Marion and Grundy Co., Tn and died in Harlan Co., Ky in 1927. Sarah's brother, William Levi Davis, married Sarah Stokes, daughter of Sylvanus. She had two daughters and died about 1890 to 1900. I have been in contact with a descendant of William Levi Davis and his second wife and I have been in contact with some of the Hukey family but not descendants of James and Sarah. Have been told that there are descendants in Walker Co. but have not found them. Would like to correspond with them. Also would like to find William Davis and Francis Hilburn in the 1860 census. J.J. and George Hilburn were in Dade co. in 1860 and served with the Dade Co. boys during the Civil War. All of Wm. Davis' family was also in Dade Co. It is possible that they were living in Dade and the census just missed them. Would be glad to hear from you and any of the families Paul R.L. 1. Re: [GAWALKER] Ivester & Massey & Eason
    2. Thank so much Linda, Do you by any chance have any information on that Ancel Massy in the 1850 census. Am wondering if that isn't Nancy's parents. In 1850 he is shown with: Massy, Ansel - 47 -farmer - SC Sarah - 47 - SC Reuben - 17 - farmer - Ga Sarah - 12 - Ga Frances F. - 9 - Ga McClanihan, Margaret - 80 - Ireland So he is of an age to be Nancy's father. She is shown as age 24 in 1850. Then... Ansel and Sarah named a son Reuben and Jacob Ivester and Nancy named a son Reuben. Last night I finally found Ansel Massy in the 1840 census of Walker Co. He is shown with 1 male age 5-10 (1830-1835) - which would fit Reuben in 1850 1 male 15-20 (1820-1825) 1 male 30-40 (1800-1810) = Ansel 1 female under 5 (1835-1840) - which would fit Sarah in 1850 1 female 10-15 (1825-1830) - which would fit some of the ages listed later by Elmina Eason 1 female 15-20 (1820-1825) - which would fit Nancy's age in most of the later census records 1 female 30-40 (1800-1810) - Sarah Thanks so much for helping. 1. Re: [GAWALKER] Ivester & Massey & Eason
    2. Well.... at least is says the name Nancy might be a Massey name...<g>. When I look at the Walker Co., Georgia 1850 census - in terms of Massey - there are several listed - spelled both Massey and Massy. But the one that seems to be of most interest is this one: Massy, Ancel - 47 - farmer - SC Sarah - 47 - SC Reuben - 17 - farmer - Ga Sarah - 12 - Frances F. - 9 McClanihan, Margaret - 80 - Ireland This Ancel Massy and his family are on pg. 439B. Jacob Ivester and Nancy are on pg. 441B John Eason and Elmira are also on pg. 441B Ancel Massy is 47. Nancy ???? Ivester is 24. So he could be her father based on age... Ancel Massy named a son Reuben. Jacob Ivester and Nancy named a son Reuben - not the most common of names. Ancel Massy and his wife Sarah both indicate they were born in SC. In 1880 Nancy ???? Ivester indicates that both her parents were born in SC. Now... none of that is what you could call "documentation"....<g>. But.... I do find them interesting. 1. Re: [GAWALKER] Ivester & Massey & Eason
    2. HI Dennis, Thanks so much for responding. My problem is that I am not sure who to look at for my Massey line. The 1850 census of West Chick, Walker Co., Ga has this family: Jacob Ivester - 30 - farmer - NC Nancy - 24 John - 5 - Ga Monroe - 3 - Ga Reuben - 1 - Ga Elizabeth - 1 - Ga In later census records Nancy will indicate that she was born in either SC or NC with SC appearing most of the time. And a few families down is this family: Eason, John B. - 24 - farmer - Ga Elmira - 19 - SC James T. - 1 - Ga By 1860 both of these families are together in Craighead Co., Arkansas and the links between these two families continue well into the 1900's. Children and grandchildren, etc of these two families intermarry even though Jacob Ivester and his family move to Stoddard Co., Mo by 1870 while the Eason family stays in Craighead. For a long time we thought perhaps this was a case of a brother and sister married to a brother and sister and that Nancy's maiden name might be Eason while Elmira might be an Ivester. But... Jacob and Nancy Ivester had a son Jacob Foster. At his death in Missouri the family there gave the information that his mother's name was Massey/Massy (bet you were wondering when I would finally get to Massey...<g>). So.. now we have a maiden name for Nancy - Massey. AND.. now we are wondering of Elmira might be a Massey as well. And... that is where I am stuck.... on Nancy Massey and who her parents might be. So far I have not been able to locate a marriage record for Jacob Ivester and Nancy Massey. He was born in Rutherford Co., North Carolina while she mostly indicates South Carolina for a birth location. Do you by any chance have a stray Nancy running around in your line?????? ....LOL Any help would sure be appreciated.
