Could anyone share some information about William H. Campbell? I know he lived in Walker County and died about 1936. He was born on 28 May 1870 and married Florrie Rosena Parrish on 4 Dec 1886. I have tried getting his death certificate through Georgia, but they don't have anything. My next step is to send a request to Nashville in case he was taken to Erlanger before he died. This is my great grandfather. I appreciate any help you might have. Jon
Jon, I was looking in the Walker County Cemetery Books for your William H. Campbell. There was a William H. Campbell buried in Lafayette Cemetery, however the dates are different. Lafayette Cemetery William H. Campbell Dec. 10, 1886 Aug. 18, 1915 beside him is a: Buena R. Campbell Oct. 11, 1896 Sept. 10, 1979 But...then I found a: Lookout Cemetery Florie Campbell Mar. 28, 1870 Nov. 13, 1949 Now, I have no idea if these two are connected to you in some way but wanted go ahead and send the information. Sandra, The McFarland Cemetery was cleaned off last year and so far twice this year. That is except the very back of it which is rather grown up. I was at the cemetery last week making photographs for a lady in OK who has ancestors buried there. This is a large cemetery but most of the graves only have concrete blocks marking their sites. A few of the tombstones are broken and are on the ground. Whoever is cleaning it is taking no pains to avoid damage to the few tombstones remaining. I'm not complaining... they are cleaning it or most of it anyway. I mentioned to Bill that the McFarland Cemetery had not been included. If I had known when I was there last week I would have taken my GPS with me for the readings although it might be hard getting a good reading since the trees are in full leaf. I'm by there a couple times each week and will give it a try. Bill, you're doing a great job with the Walker County web site but I sure as heck hope people do not try to follow some of the driving instructions to the cemeteries that are posted. They will be driving forever, taking a scenic tour of the county. I only looked at a few of them so I can't speak for all of them. Also, you have Payne Chapel and Payne Chapel (Hooker) listed. There is a Payne Chapel on Lookout Mountain (one I did check) but there is not one in Hooker. Hooker is in Dade County and not on Lookout Mountain. And, there is only one Payne Chapel here on Lookout. I was also surprised on the transcriptions for some of them... Payne Chapel is a fairly good size cemetery but only a few tombstones are transcribed. The same for New Lookout Cemetery. Between my husband and me, we have family buried in most of the ones here on Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga Valley (including both New and Old Lookout), McLemore Cove area, Humphrey Cemetery, Tn/GA, and Peavine to name a few. Ramona, I'm Sue Forrester and did the Walker County Cemetery survey here on Lookout Mountain. Is there anything I can help you with? These two cemeteries are not far apart. However, two things regarding the Walden-Fugate Cemetery... First, I'm not certain if the same people own the property who did when I did the survey and second, it is in far worse shape now than a few years ago. I pass it at least two/three times a week. It might be best to wait until cold weather when there is less foliage and NO snakes. This cemetery is very small and there are only four tombstones: Mary Fugate, 10 June 1858-9 July 1929 William (Bill) Walden [home made concrete marker, no dates] Mary Ella (infant), 26 Dec 1902 Baby Walden, Dau of Lee & Ira Walden [no dates] Mount Pleasant cemetery is south of Walden-Fugate cemetery by just a few miles (3 +/- miles maybe). It is large and is usually kept in good condition. When I passed by Saturday it looked good. My gr-grandfather's brother is buried here along with one of his nephews.
