Hello Everyone, I made it home (back to Arkansas) tonight from attending the reunion and wanted to tell everyone how much I enjoyed the reunion and especially getting to meet all those people I have only known through email. Linda Sue has a great thing going and could very easily turn into a great resource tool, so if you were only thinking about going, please seriously consider it next year. She goes to a lot of trouble and for that I personally wanted to say THANKS, you did a great job. If you want I would be happy to post it on the Walker County, Georgia GenWeb site. Bill Clody Walker County Coordinator, Georgia GenWeb p.s. due to some strange going on within USGenWeb relative to its relationship with GaGenWeb quite a number of us who were in the project have formed a new organization which is Georgia GenWeb. The site that was the old GAGenWeb site was restored to about where it was when I first took it over from Sherry Osburn. The new site which will be where my ongoing efforts will be focused is at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/county/walker/ . I hope many of you will visit the new site. It is slowly getting everything that was on my old site and will continue to be upgraded as more information is contributed to the site by researchers. Yes, I have a list of all that attended and the surnames..........I will send a list out in a few days. Linda Sue
Hey Sweety! I am sorry you could not make it too! I was looking forward to seeing you! Hold on to as many of those shirts as you can because we are having one next year and you can sale them then. Stay in touch with me OK? Love ya! Linda Sue
I have an aunt buried at the Osburn Cemetery in an unmarked grave... either that or it just says Baby... I haven't been there to look for it yet. She was a Koger. Mother said they buried her on the side nearest the school. Mother is dead now, so it's going to be a matter of hunting to see if I can find an unmarked grave that could be hers. I want one of the books if you'll save me one. I'm going to Florida tonight & won't be back until Sat. I'd go ahead & mail you a check now, but I don't have your address! Would you please save me one? My mother grew up in Chickamauga. She had good friends who were Osburns... wish I could remember the names. She went to Osburn School when she was little. I found an old report card in her things. Mother used to talk about the school & her friends in Chickamauga. I drove out there one day to find the cemetery, but I missed the road somehow... didn't have time so I came on home to Powder Springs (near Marietta GA). I suppose the book has directions so I wouldn't get lost, right????????? Either way, I would love your book. Please keep me one & send me your address.... also, how much should I add for shipping? Thanks so much.. Sheila Radcliff Stockhausen... daughter of Barbara Koger Radcliff
I think Linda Sue may be on the road traveling right now and may not see the emails regarding the reunion tomorrow. Since this is an all day get together, yes, bring whatever food you would like. Paper products, etc., will be furnished so no need to bring them. If you do not want to eat with the group, there is the Plantation Resturant within 2 blocks. Also a Sonic (across from Plantation Restaurant) and a McDonalds nearby. But we hope everyone will stay. For anyone traveling south on Hwy 27 (or coming old 27 through the Park) when you see the Sonic Drive-in on the right side of Hwy 27, the Plantation Restaurant will be across the street. In front of the Plantation is a road that turns left (east) off Hwy 27 which is the Lee-Gordon Mill Rd. Make that left turn onto Lee-Gordon Mill Rd and stay on it about 2 blocks. You will have to go left where the road forks but you'll see the mill on the left side of the road... can't miss it. If anyone is traveling north on Hwy 27 from the LaFayette area... When you get to the Chickamauga area on Hwy 27, watch for McDonalds which will be on the left (west) side of the road. When you see McDonalds, there will be a traffic light. Turn right at that traffic light and go about 2 blocks. You are going to have to make a hard right turn onto Lee-Gordon Mill Rd but you can see the Mill when you get to this turn. The Lee-Gordon Mill is actually only a couple of blocks on the east side of Hwy 27 but it can't be seen from 27. There will be at least three copiers (scanners)... I'll be taking mine, Linda Sue will take hers and Janie Westbrook is suppose to bring hers. If anyone else has one and would like to bring it along, please feel free to do so. We will probably charge about 10 cent a copy because of the cartridge expense but I don't think anyone will object to that. Also, there will be some books for sale... Sartain's HISTORY OF WALKER COUNTY GEORGIA can be purchased at the mill. I'll be bringing the WALKER COUNTY HERITAGE BOOK, 1833-1983, both Walker County Cemetery books plus the index, and some of the other Walker County books. There will also be THE CIVIL WAR COMES TO DADE COUNTY, THE DADE COUNTY MARRIAGE BOOK, 1866-1888, THE FANNIN COUNTY MARRIAGE BOOK, DEKALB COUNTY ALABAMA 1870 CENSUS. Yes, there will be a note book for people to sign in that will include their address, email address, phone number and who they are researching. Sheila, Linda Sue and I were wondering what had happened to you this afternoon. Good to hear from you. Donna Newman, hope you can make it... I'm looking forward to meeting you. Everyone who can come, please do so even if only for a couple of hours. Sue
Hi ya'll... I wrote earlier to say I'd be there. Something else has come up & I can't come!!!! I'm so sad to miss this. Please tell Pat Springer I have something for her that I'll have to mail.... guess the shirts will have to wait. If anybody is dying for one, e-mail me sheilars@aol.com & I'll give you info. Be sure to put Geneology shirt in text or I'll ignore you. The shirts are 15.00 each (plus shipping). On the front it says "I see dead people" with a cemetery .... on back it says Geneologist (on a tree)...can send you a pic. I will miss you guys. I had these shirts made just for the occasion... will be selling on e-bay I suppose.. or to neighbors.... wasn't a money making endeavor at this point anyway... maybe in the future! Sheila R. Stockhausen p.s. I want to see that Osburn School stuff... whoever has it, e-mail me... I'll buy a cd!!!!
Hi Sheila, I have a few of the Osburn books (and there are only a few more left... it isn't on CD)... They were put together by the Osburn family in memory of Osburn School 1867 - 1998. If you are interested, I'll pass your information on to Pat "Osburn" Wafford (doesn't have e-mail)... She gave me a few to bring... and I am sure that there are just a very few remaining... They sold really fast... but, I don't know if there'll be a second printing. Proceeds go to keep up the Osburn Cemetery (behind the old Osburn Elem. School). Maybe they could mail one to you. Oh yeah, I almost forgot... they are $15.00 each. Sorry you won't be there at the reunion. I'm coming... have been really busy & might not have much to contribute besides myself. I designed a fun t-shirt that I'll be wearing... ordered 25 in case anybody else likes it... if not, will sell on e-bay :) It's a geneology shirt. I'll bring them in case.... also, will try to pack up a few albums of my studies.... wish I had time to organize but I've been really busy. We're also leaving for Florida on Sat. night so I have to leave reunion & get back to Powder Springs (near Atl) in time to pack & get everything out of my car! Can't wait to see ya'll... Sheila
Hi Linda Sue, a quick question, will you be posting names people attending are looking for? I live in Daytona Bch. Fl. and cannot attend the reunion, but my husbands Clark's have been in the NW GA area since 1832 and most remained there, thus they married into several lines that were and are in the Murray, Walker, Whitfield and Catoosa area. It is impossible to remember who was where at any given time unless I know which name to look for. If anyone would like to give at least names and appx. dates that could be posted to the list, I am sure many of us would look through our Trees and see if we have any of them listed and post the info to the list and it would help all of us. Sherry Clark
Hi Everyone, Just a reminder about our gathering at 10:00 AM at the Lee-Gordon Mill in Chickamauga. I have had many folks RSVP and lots of great researchers will be there so please try and join us! See Ya there! Linda Sue
Linda Sue, Just got this e-mail and did not know that there was a reunion coming up. Been researching in Walker County for about a year. I live in Guntersville AL and would like to try to come tomorrow. What are the hours and what is planned? Please send info soon so that I can try to make plans. (Do we bring food?) Thanks! Donna
Anne, Your last name is Ramsey that you're researching, maybe misspelled as Ramey? I am a Nelson of Walker Co Ga. and believe my Nelsons to be connected to Sartain ,but not proven yet. Just came across data as of lately. If you are a Ramsey-- James Ramsey signed the civil war records of my gggrandfather in Ga.born in 1844, Father was Thomas Ramsey and you can find them aslo in Murray Co , Hall Co Ga as well as Greenville Sc. about the 1840 and 1850's. as well as Chestor Co.Sc. They must have been close friends. Let me hear from you, William might have been a brother. Also the name Jeremiah runs in our line. Blessing, Sartain was one of the earlier setlers of Walker Co.
