Hi List, How can I find land records for my ggg grandfather in Walker GA.? I have looked at the land patent records but they don't have GA or SC. I'm sure I am just doing something stupid but I can't figure it out. My papers say David Kennmer/Kenemore bought 300 acres of land in Walker Co. GA near Dalton, GA before the indians were moved across the Mississippi. I sure would love to have proof he was there. Thank you Judy Conrad of Oklahoma
I would like to connect with anyone who had Smiths in Walker Co., GA and or Hamilton Co., TN between 1830 and 1850. I am especially interested if you have a James Smith or a Middleton Smith born about 1809 or a Littleton Smith born about 1814. My James M. Smith was living in Hamilton Co., TN in 1830 he was married to Susan Wallen. By 1850 they were living in Lookout Mountain, Walker Co., GA as was Littleton Smith who was married to Bathsheba. By 1860 both families are living in Randolph Co., AR and it is there they settled. Does anyone know of a Campbell Smith who lived in Walker Co., GA or Hamilton Co., TN in the same time period or earlier 1820+ Kathleen Burnett

He married Millisie MORRIS b. abt 1839 in Georgia. She is suppose to Cherokee Indian. She may have been from Walker Co. also. Is there anyone who can give me any information on this family? Anyone still living in Walker Co.? I know Pricilla took her family to Murfreesboro, TN by 1870 and then to Arkansas and Oklahoma. Thanks for your help. Anne Renshaw >> Hi Anne, I do not have any information on your Rameys but my great grandmother was Rebecca Susan Ramey who first married a Henry William Partain around 1861 in Walker Co., GA. Henry William was killed in the War and Rebecca married my great grandfather, George Washington Burns shortly after he returned to Walker County at the end of the War. They moved to Scott Co., AR, in the late 1800s by way of Pueblo, CO, (and perhaps Texas) from Walker Co., GA. Would you have any information about who were her parents or siblings or about her ancestry?

Deb, There is nothing in the WALKER COUNTY CEMETERY, VOL 1 book for your John and Elizabeth Headrick/Hedrick. I believe John might have been on the Walker County 1850 mortality schedule. >From the very little I know they may have lived east of Villanow, in the East Armuchee area. Taylor's Ridge is in between Villanow and East Armuchee. This is not far from the Gordon County GA line. You might try to see if someone who has a Gordon Co cemetery book can do a lookup for you there. That's a long shot but a try. Walker County has a number of unmarked graves all over the county. The earlier the death in the 1800's the less likely of one finding a marked grave. And, the fact that the courthouse buned in Feb 1883 doesn't help any. If Walker County had any newspaper during the 1840's and 1850's, I've never heard of it. THE WALKER COUNTY MESSENGER didn't come on the scene until 1880. I can tell you what you might try... don't know if it will work or not. You might try writing a letter to the editor of the WALKER COUNTY MESSENGER. In that letter state who your ancestors were, that they lived either in the Villanow area or East Armuchee area, who their children were (if you have that info and/or as much info as you can that would help). Asked if anyone might have any knowledge of them. Their address is 120 E. Patton St., LaFayette, GA 30728. Have you ever checked to see if John might have drawn a pension of some sort? I'm sorry not to be of help. Good luck. Hi All, On the Walker County Georgia website there is a cemetery listed as "Villanow Cemetery". I assumed that was the name of the cemetery and not the little community. Is there a cemetery in Villanow called " Villanow cemetery"? Any help appreciated. Deb Hankins
Deb, Villanow is a community located about five miles east of the city limits of LaFayette. Dear List Members, Rootsweb is slowly coming back. The messages are beginning to trickle through. We are not able to get on Rootsweb.com or am I able to get into the List Utility pages yet. Password Central is not available either. I am sure before this day is out we will be back to normal though. Just a few items I would like to bring to your attention. 1. In the course of a day I receive many requests to help members unsubscribe. Before you ask me to help, which I am always happy to do, send on the word UNSUBSCRIBE to [email protected] (XXXXXX being the name of your list.) If that does not work, then you can go to Password Central and ask for a list of all mailing lists you are subscribed to. You will receive an e-mail posting of these lists and you can unsubscribe from it. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ 2. Please check your subject line when sending back to the entire list. Make sure it covers the subject of your posting. The very person you want to read it may just delete it if you are looking for the history of John Smith and the subject line talks about burial place of Isaac Kirkpatrick. 3. If you are responding to a message, please delete some of the past postings from the bottom on your e-mail. After there has been several responses the amount of un-needed information that tags along is causing many of our members problems with the size the e-mail becomes. Again, thank you for your support of me and of the list rules. It is because of each of you that this list is the success it is. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Hi Listers, Could someone tell me where Villanow Cemetery is located? It would be so much appreciated!! Thank you, Deb Hankins

I am still looking for James Mathew Howell researchers, he and his family are on the 1850 WAlker Co. Ga. cenus page 357. I am sure the Andrew Jackson Howell in that same Co, is kin, but not proven. Can some one please help me, with the court house burning, I have really had a rough time. I have written every co. in the area, I can't seem to get a break. I live in Okla. so I dought I will ever be in Ga.to do any real research, so this is my hope. I also think Martin Gentry living next door to the Howells are kin........... maybe a father law, I have a bad copy of a death cert, and it apears the maiden name of Patience Howell is Gentry, not proven. Patience is James Mathew Howell's wife. In 1860 this family is in Erath Co TX. 1870 Comanche Co. TX\ 1880 Brown Co. TX 1890-2001 OKLA. Camellia Howell Foster
