Thanks my Hicks moved to Walker Co. about 1840 or 50 ,some of their children moved on to Mo. but Andrew jr. andhis wife are buried in Rock Spring Cem. alot of the others in Shields Lake Cem. Elsie
Elsie, There were only two HICKS articles listed... one is Dora and Jere Hicks, written by Dora Hicks and the other Joseph Rudolph and Marjorie Nelle Ward Hicks. Both are for families after 1900. There are 18 articles written with the surname HICKS mentioned somewhere in them. Hi Sue Would you look in your book for anything on Andrew Jackson Hicks Sr. and Jr. . Sr died in 1900 , Jr. died in 1917. Thanks Elsie
Sherry, There were no Haddox/Haddock listed in the surname index of THE WALKER COUNTY GEORGIA HERITAGE BOOK, 1833-1883. The closest was Hadden. I checked HISTORY OF WALKER COUNTY GEORGIA by James A Sartain.... only one listing on page 289 in a roster for World War vets [referring to WW I]: HADDOCK, Wallace C. That was all the information on him, just his name. Dear Sue, Would you mind seeing if you find any Haddox, Haddock families in your book? I would greatly appreciate it. Especially during the time frame of 1850-1855. Thank you very much Sherry
Linda Sue has already answered your question regarding where the cemetery is located. I have a Marion Co Cemetery book if you would like for me to look something up for you. Several of my ancestors were in Marion Co and I still have cousins there. Duke, If you are referring to the Alfred Williams who married Matilida Hutson in Campbell Co TN (msy gr-gr-grandparents) they are on the 1860 census of Campbell Co. They moved to the Cenchat area (now Chattanooga Valley) sometime in the 1860's. He is died ca 1868/69 as Matilda was listed on the 1870 as married Sept 1869 to George W. Ellis. Linda Sue, Please include me in your web site. My husband is a descendent of John W Williams through his daughter Hattie Viola Williams who married Grover Cleveland Hixon (all of Walker Co.). To: Beverly Sue Forrester Need some lookup please. Would like to know the number and the names of the Children in the Irving Powell Family, in the 1910 Census of Walker Co. This Powell family lived in the Kensington District of Walker Co. Would you to lookup in the Walker Co. Census of 1840, Lookout Mortain District, Lewis R. Powell, names and number of children. Thank you in advance. Pat Springer
Linda Sue, yes you did send me an invitation. I was enjoying it greatly until I lost my bookmarks and couldn't find my way back to your site. But all is well now, I have found it again. Thanks. Could someone check the 1860 census for ALFRED WILLIAMS living in the Chatt Valley/Flintstone/Burnt Mill Rd. area. Could you check cemetery records also. He died in 1868(?) but think he is buried in an unmarked family cemetery. Thanks.
Snake, Jasper is the County seat for Marion County, TN. The cemetery is right off the exit for Jasper when you get off I-24. It is between Chattanooga and Monteagle Mt. Linda Sue
Hey Sue, The Campbell I spoke of was Campbell Wallin, sorry for the mislead. But it is so weird.........my father Ernest Hollingsworth came from Walker County and my mother Ruth Erea (pronounced E-Ray) Murphy came from Grundy County, TN! She was raised in Whitwell, TN as her father was a coal miner. The name Erea is old Cherokee and it means Morning Star. I am descended from the Sanders, Goodman, Powell and Murphys of Grundy County. Linda Sue
Campbell and his wife Martha Cruse are buried in the Wallin Cem. (Walker Co. #51)... they are listed as Gamel & Martha, but the dates are correct so I'm sure it's them... it is the family cememtery. My ancestors are buried there, and we knew them as Waldens. My great-grandfather left a list of family members who are buried there, but that was before Campbell & Martha died I believe... or at least MY part of the family had moved away by then. I can get you some info on the family, but I don't have anything on Campbell & Martha because they branch off... I have info prior to them, however. Go to Ancestry.com website & type in Campbell Walden or Wallen... I believe I have entered information already. The same families (Wallin/Walden/Hise are also in the 1850 Walker Co. Census records).
