    1. [GAWALKER] About Mrs. Joel A. Fowler
    2. Ken Fowler
    3. Hi All, It seems to be very solidly established that Joel A. Fowler (1823 - 1894) and his second wife, Sarah M. Shaw Fowler (1828 - 1907) are both buried in the Antioch Cemetery near Cedar Grove. But what about Joel's first wife: Serphina T. "Sophie" Tipton? Does anybody have any idea what happened to her? Sophie and Joel had four children by 1851 and then? Was there a problem with the birth of her last (Mariah Fowler (McWhorter))? Did she run off with a traveling medicine show? And while I'm at it, does anybody have a _solid_ source that will confirm Joel's middle name was "Asbury"? Thanks... Ken Fowler (Joel's ggg-grandson) Sharing my FOWLER information at http://www.metronet.com/~klfowler

    3. Sheila, I'm originally from Walker Co and still live nearby in the area. You wouldn't believe how many times I have walked over the different cemeteries in McLemore Cove searching for my 2nd gr-grandfather's grave. Per the WALKER COUNTY MESSENGER, he died in the Cove and is buried in the Antioch Cemetery. I do have a gr-gr-grandmother bur in the Old Antioch Cemetery (these two ancestors are not connected). Thank goodness her grave is marked! She is Ellender Rawlings. So, if anyone finds William Franklin Parham's grave in the Cove, I hope they let me know. 1. Re: [GAWALKER] Durham School on Lookout Mountain
    2. Beverly Forrester
    3. Per the History of Walker County, Gillen School was established in 1949 effecting the consolidation of the Ascalon and Durham Schools. Gillen is now closed A page later it stated that Pittsburg closed in 1949. Gillen opened in 1951, closing Ascalon. Another school south of Ascalon was Dillon. It was closed many years ago. I think Pittsburg was an earlier name for Durham. Durham got its name from the Durham Coal & Coke Co when they purchased the mining property (ca 3200 acres) from the Lookout Coal & Coke Co in 1899. 3. I do not know if this is your line or not. Applications of Steven C. Rowland. and also of Alice Cothran, Anna Cothran, and also Martha Garnish: Their grandmother was Dovie Martin who married Stephen Pace. Dovie's father was Joseph Martin, who was a son to John Martin. Anna's letter to the commission stated that Joseph lived on Chickamauga Creek in Georgia. I have no further info on them. I tie to a Tennessee Martin line and had this in my files, showing it came from Shirley Hoskins' book. Cherokee Blood, Vol. I. Don't know if this will help or hinder. 3. Denise, Have you contacted the Walker County Board of Education regarding those records? I'm not sure they have them but you might ask. The address is 201 S Duke St., LaFayette, GA 30728. Phone number is 706-638-1240. 3. The fact that there is no docket number simply means the will is filed alphabetically by last name. My wife's gggrandfather was listed the same way and I had no idea what it meant until I went by the courthouse last summer. I asked one of the clerks about it and in less time than I would have thought possible found myself holding the last will and testament and all the supporting documents of a man who had died 100 years ago. It was really kind of awesome Bill ----- Original Message ----- From: TERRY A MENDENHALL To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, May 02, 2001 2:17 PM Subject: [GAWALKER] William JAMES Hi Folks, Glad to be on a new list.
