Hi ladies,I noticed your discussion about Powell's and though I'm not related, when I came across this obit in Monday's Chatt.Times-Freepress paper for May.7,2001 I thought I would post it just in case. I just happen to have an article that came with another story I had copied from the Chatt.TIMES paper,Nov.4,1953. It tells about Tri-County Hospital. TRI-CITY HOSPITAL DEDICATION SUNDAY. Gov.Talmadge Will Preside at Ft.Oglethorpe Opening of $2,000,000 Facility. Fort Oglethorpe,Ga.Nov.3.-Plans are being made for the dedication of the Tri-County Hospital at Fort Oglethorpe,by Gov.Herman Talmadge on Sunday afternoon,Nov.8. The hospital will serve Walker,Dade and Catoosa counties and will be the first hospital in the country to be supported by three counties. The hospital has been built on the site of the old army hospital at Fort Oglethorpe on land donated by the Federal government. Opening of the new hospital will end six years of work and planning by officials of the three counties. The cost of the hospital, which is modern, fireproof and fully equipped,is around two million dollars. The Fedral and State governments have agreed to pay around one-third of the cost each of the hospital and the remainder of the money has been raised by revenue certificates and public subscriptions. Oscar Hilliard,of Ft.Oglethorpe,is administrator of the hospital. The hospital will be staffed by doctors of the Tri- County Medical Association, and also served by doctors and specialists in many other fields pledged by the Chattanooga and Hamillton County Medical Association. Fort Oglethorpe, formerly a widely known military post,is now a thriving municipality which lies partly in Walker and partly in Catoosa county. Its close proximity to Chattanooga is an asset to the hospital. An indigent fund is being prepared by the three counties to take care of charity cases. Hello, I just read your posting about Hamilton Co Tn............... My Great Grandparents were (I believe) from Hamilton Co Tn and I didn't know about the separation of counties! They were married Dec 13-1866 Catoosa Co Ga Fredrick H White to Mary Anne Bird Any info on this ? Freddie B Stewart from Massachusetts
Deb, I'm also related to the Wallens.... but we went by WALDEN. My great-gr-gr-great grandfather was Andrew Wallen who married Drusilla Hartman. My great-great was Jesse who married Emilie Williamson & later Mary Durham. My great-grandfather was Andrew Taylor Walden who grew up in the Cove also... my grandmother Anna Walden grew up there as well. Sheila
My Dear Cousin Kathleen, And it does not help much that they used the Wallen naming pattern either! I have always thought that we had a connection on the Smith line as well. My James Monroe Hollingsworth married an Elizabeth Smith. I am at a brick wall with her as well. One thing that you might want to look in is the fact that par of Hamilton County was made part of James County for a while but later reabsorbed back into Hamilton. Parts of Marion County was at one time considered Hamilton County also. I will keep you posted if I find anything. Linda Sue
great! thanks for the tip...sheila
Bill, Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've tried going to the cemetery links on Sherry's page for months in hopes that they were repaired. I'm completely computer illerate. If you'll go to www.walling.org, I believe you might find some information related to your Susan. The name was Wallen, Wallin, Walling, & Walden at various times. Your Susan could be the daughter of Jesse Wallin from Va. to Tn. to Ga. OR she could be the daughter of William Walden (Wallin?) from Va. to Tn. to Ga. William was my gr-gr-gr-gr????? I get lost.. anyway, check that site out & good luck. sheila
I have some unmarked graves in Antioch as well. Doubt if I'll ever know the right ones... oh well! Sheila
When I replied to Sheila this morning regarding Walter Franklin Parham, I stated that he was the "son" of William Franklin Parham (and Mary Lucinda Mowrey). After it was too late, I realized that I had left out the word "grand" but I was on my way to church and didn't have time to make a correction. Walter Franklin Parham was the son of Thomas Mason and Rachel Hunter Parham. Thomas Mason was the son of William Franklin. Thomas and Rachel are buried in the Summerville Cemetery in Chattooga Co. Just wanted to make the correction in case a descendant came along researching this family. Thanks. Sue

Sheila, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you meant that for me?? I do thank you very much for your kindness. Walter F. was my gr-grandfather's brother and Lillian (still living) is Walter's wife. Walter was the son of William Franklin Parham. It is William Franklin's grave I've searched for and can't find. It was my hope that someone would see the message and could tell me exactly which unmarked grave in Anitoch is his. I live here in the area and recorded several of the cemeteries in volume 2. Again, thank you. Thanks Sheila, I will take all the Youngbloods from the northwest Georgia area I can get. Sooner or later I will have all the right ones collected and probably some new family members to go along with them.
