Hmm... reading your note again, and wondering if perhaps you got your A.T. Walden stuff from his son, my Uncle Jack. He would've been an OLD gentleman :) Sheila

ps... I'm related to some Hixson's also... Will Hixson married Janie Camp ... she was the sister of my great-grandmother (that's on my Radcliff side). Sheila
Don't worry, I wasn't feeling that you were insulting my old great-gramps... :) I just wondered how you got it! Do you have the hand-written copy (xeroxed) or a typed one? The typed one is much easier to follow. Wondering how long you've had your copy. My uncle Jack had the original (Jack was the son of gr-grandpa Taylor)... after he died, my cousin Jackie (Jack's daughter) got the original. About the Indians... I've seen several other references to the death of William's mother. I'll have to dig to see exactly where I've seen it. Another reference to the scalping... in the Walker Co. Families book, another lady documented this as her family heard it.... same story as the one I was told, as passed down by word of mouth & in the hand-written history. I believe the other reference was in a history book of Tennessee.... will look. I've never heard about a Hale. Sheila
Sheila, Hear ya on #4. I still go around muttering "yankee go home" everytime I hear someone on the radio or tv pronounce it wrong. A friend that I worked with for many years was from "mich-e-gun" and I still tell her "yankee go home" I never could get her to say it right. One time she would pronounce it right and the next right back to her old ways. > 4. Chattanooga is pronounced "chat-a-noog-a". About Allen Williamson. According to information passed down from my great-grandfather Andrew Taylor Walden... his grandfather Allen Williamson was buried in the family graveyard. Sheila
Emily is the daughter of Allen Williamson who lived in Walker Co. Her mother died in Cobb Co. and Allen moved with his family & sister Mary to Walker Co. There he married Mary Durham & had more kids. Sheila p.s... I don't know anything else about Powell at this point, but he's on my list of people to find info on! Sheila
This has nothing to do w/hospitals, but I thought you all would enjoy this..... TOP TEN THINGS VISITORS DON'T UNDERSTAND ABOUT CHATTANOOGA, TN. 10. Our public airport terminal isn't for flying out of, it's just a big, pretty, expensive building that's for lookin' at. 9. Any road can change names without any warning, rhyme or reason. (See Brainerd, Lee, McCallie, etc....) so if you're lost, get used to it. 8. The secondary roads were laid out by releasing a goat, then following it with a bulldozer. 7. All train crossings remain quiet and untraveled until you are 15 minutes late, at which point a 120-car train stops halfway through, backs up and pulls forward several times while you contemplate turning around like the vehicles behind you did. (You can rest assured that when you do turn around, the last thing you'll see in your rear view is the caboose going by.) 6. Road construction employees have been know to begin their careers right out of high school and retire at 62 within the span of a single Hamilton County road project. No one even thinks this is unusual anymore. 5. When you say "I live on THE Mountain" you are speaking of Lookout Mtn. When you say "a mountain" it could be Signal, Elder, White Oak, etc... If you reside anywhere in the valley you are "ditch people." 4. Chattanooga is pronounced "chat-a-noog-a". If you pronounce it "chat-nooga" you are obviously from "up north" and are branded an outsider for life. See "Wutwull" (not Whit-well). "Lufayet" (not La-fee-et), or "Fallin'-wadder" for reference. 3. If there is even the slightest inkling of a chance of snow, schools will close without warning. (My personal belief is that the local weathermen are on the payrolls of Bi-Lo, Food Lion and company since a prediction of snow causes every self-respecting Southerner to flock to the grocery stores as if we would be trapped in the house for a month. Never mind that there's a Golden Gallon store 200 yards from every home in Hamilton County. And the employees never go home. Ever. I've seen the same girl in our neighborhood store at every conceivable hour for 6 years, but I digress.... 2. When four locals meet at the approximate same time at a 4-way stop, it will take a small eternity for everyone to stop being polite (motioning "you first") and just go on through. 1. The downtown aquarium was designed with a slanted roof for one important reason. It's to keep the locals from fishin' out of it! Sheila

As you probably have noticed, the Walker County site has not been updated for some time. Unfortunately, Sherry Osburn is unable to continue as County Coordinator. This site is currently available for adoption. Sherry is graciously allowing all parts of the site to remain with GAGenWeb and we will not lose access to any of the wonderful resources Sherry has added. The site does need to be moved however. If you have an interest in continuing to put Walker County genealogical resources on the internet, please consider adopting this site. While you do not need to have any experience writing and maintaining webpages, you would need to acquire this skill or team up with another researcher with this experience. GAGenWeb maintains a list of Guidelines for County Coordinators at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/cchelp/ This page outlines GAGenWeb page requirements and contains tips for creating a successful website. Hey Sheila, I got my copy from a gentleman who lives in Chattanooga somewhere........and I honestly do not know where he got it. The one thing that is so so very important about his writings is that he did know that we came from William and that William's mother was scalped and murdered by the Indians. He in a sense gave us the one most important clue to our line so please do not think I was insulting his writings, God Bless him he sounded like a wonderful person! I actually cherish my copy Sweety. The other thing that I got from someone lately is that William and his brother Elisha's mother was not a Roberts but possibly a Hale? I will find that email and forward it to you so you can read it too. I would love for us to get together sometime and talk. I have my Great Aunt Leota Wallin Hixson visiting this week. She is the Great Granddaughter to Campbell Wallen! Maybe I can get some more info out of her and ask her about your Grandfather and G. Grandfather as she is 80 and does still remember a lot about her daddy's family. Take Care! Linda Sue
I was aware of the errors in the beginning of my gr-grandfather's information. Apparently he did some of this from RESEARCH & some from memory. The research materials in his time were not as good as the wonders we have now, as you are well aware. I've sent Pat the portion mentioning the Powells. At this time, I really don't have more information about the Powells, but my cousin Kim lives in the Cove & I've asked her to see if she can find information for Pat. I'm curious... where did you get my great-grandfather's journal? It couldn't have been from me, because I took out the inaccuracies before I typed it up. I didn't think ANYBODY had that but me & my cousin Jackie. She has the original, & she made me a copy of that. I took her typed copy & did some research, then took out the section that was completely wrong. I did leave MINOR errors such as.. the family moved here from Lee county.. and maybe it was Scott Co.. just things like that... just because it's how he w! ro! te it. I also corrected ONE nam e (first name), and I put in a few dates in italics.. also corrected some spelling for clarity in reading. Anyway... I did keep the original in my notes, but I MADE a note to say that I didn't believe it was correct, due to records that show otherwise. I've already told Pat about the little bit that was incorrect. Anyway... let me know where you got your copy, ... it IS the one that begins with William coming from England, correct?? Well, I have to go.. will be back in touch... Sheila :)
Thank you Sue. Beverly Forrester wrote: > I think it was from a man named Gillen. I'll check on it later today. >

Was the Williamson woman that Jesse Wallin married any relation to Allen Williamson of early Walker Co., GA? (Shows 1840 & 1850 .... buried in Williamson Cemetery in unmarked grave.) 2. Lewis R. Powell b. 1792 VA shows on deeds in Elbert Co., GA w/ Wm R. Powell, Francis Powell, Sr., Francis Powell, Jr. & Honorius Powell. He svc in War 1812 from Elbert Co., GA., later moved to Hall Co., GA then to Walker Co., GA. Brother is thought to be Presley Powell of Hall Co., GA & Paulding Co., GA. I think he is related to the Powells in Maury Co., TN but don't know exactly how. I think I've chatted w/ Pat about this at one point. John W. Powell [email protected]
There were none in Dade County except for a doctor's office. Most seriously ill would have been sent to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. I'm not sure when Tri-County Hospital in Fort Oglethorpe was organized... either the 1920's or 30's. Now it is Tri-County d/b/a Hutcheson Medical Center. I think there was a clinic in LaFayette and a couple more hospitals in Chattanooga. I don't know about Marion Co. Sheila, I have a copy of the family history that was written by Andrew T. Walden. Most of what he wrote was correct except the portions about the earlier history was incorrect. We have since found deeds and other records that prove William did not come from England in 1740 but that the family was here much much earlier. I descend from Campbell Wallin and Martha Cruse. What I need from you is any information about a Louis R. Powell that supposedly Andrew's father rented land from for a while until his was cleared. This info is not for me but for a Pat Springer who is also a member of our list. I have been trying to help her and just happen to reading the article that Andrew wrote and read that information in there. I need to get ready for work now but would love to exchange information with you! Kathleen, our list Mom is also from our Walling/Wallen/Wallin/Walden line. Linda Sue
