    3. A very sad death occurred in the Hendricks community Tuesday when Miss Bessie Starling passed away. She had been sick for a week or ten days with fever and everything done possible for her but to no avail. The funeral and burial occurred Tuesday afternoon at Hendrix, the service being conducted by Rev. Bowden of McDonough, assisted by Rev. R.E. Rutland. The exercises were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives. Miss Starling was just entering into young womanhood being about twenty years of age. She was a bright Christian character and was a consistent member and great worker in the Methodist church and Sunday school. The deceased was one of the most valued members of the county's teaching force having had charge of the Long Branch school. Miss Starling was formerly a pupil in R.E. Lee and was well known in Thomaston and highly esteemed. The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of the people of the county in their great bereavement. Virginia Crilley

    3. This Bessie Lee Starling was my aunt, although she died long before I was born. She died on May 20, 1916 shortly before her 22nd birthday. She was the daughter of John David Starling and Mary Hannah McDaniel Starling of Upson County.
