Matilda was one of the children of Green Henry Martin and Mississippi Irene Gunn. Green Martin appears in the 1850 and 1860 censuses in Talbot County, Georgia. There is an Elizabeth Martin? in Green Martin's household in 1850. Her age appears to be 84 which makes her too old to be Mississippi's mother, whose name was also Elizabeth. I assume, but have no proof, that she was Green's mother. Have found no information as to who his father was. Green and Mississippi had the following children: Oliver 1838 Penelope 1840 not on 1860 census, don't know whether she died or got married Matilda 1841 Mary 1844 Eliza 1846 George 1848 Parmelia 1852 Iverson 1855 Green married Mississippi's younger sister Georgia Ann J. Gunn in 1862 after Mississippi died. They apparently had a son John A. Martin. That's about all I know about the Martins in that area. I would love to know more about Green's parents. Mike Day
