I'm searching for information on GEORGE M. LUMPKIN and spouse MARY J. SMITH LUMPKIN and their daughter, ELLA FRANCES LUMPKIN who appear on the 1880 census for Upson County. George was 53, Mary was 52, and Ella was 18 on that census. George was a farmer in Jug. Birth places of the parents of George and Mary were listed as "Georgia". Where on earth was "Jug"? I don't think it still exists today. Any help will be appreciated! Thank you. Michele Heiderer kellen2000@juno.com
If you can add more information about George -- where and when he died -- maybe you could even build a small bio on him that we could place on-line. George M. Lumpkin married Mary Jane Batton. Wm O Smith JP on Mar 5, 1848 (pg 239 The Early History of Upson Co ) http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/upson/census/1850/pt1.txt 1850 Census has him too. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/upson/census/1880/18800002.txt He's also listed in the agricultural census http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/upson.htm Do some searches on this page...and you may discover some other things. Same thing with this page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaupson/index.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaupson/gmd470.htm Shows a map of the Jug District ***Note don't confuse this with Jugtown where the pottery was made. JUGTOWN, where the pottery was made, was in the Flint District. (This should not be confused with the Jug District which was nearer to Yatesville.) This small community straddled the Upson, Pike and Lamar County lines, that technically don't exist any more. Bolling Brown operated an industry making jugs from the local clay which was especially good for pottery. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaupson/probate.htm This page tells you about the records in the Courthouse.... Be sure to stay in touch and share what else you find out about this family..... At 08:27 AM 10/16/2003 -0700, Marilyn M Heiderer wrote: >I'm searching for information on GEORGE M.
