This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Manson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Dd.2ADI/1292 Message Board Post: The 1880 census shows my gg-grandmother Mat Manson as a 30 year old single mulatto head of household. She lived with her son, Otis (my g-grandfather) and teenager, Elizabeth McCrary. They appear to be the only nonwhites in Upson County at that time (which seems implausible). Mat and Otis also appear to be the only persons with the Manson surname in Upson County. Mat is listed as a domestic servant. She and her son later moved to Texas. Any info about their lives in Upson County much appreciated.

I can't decipher exactly how this person is related to me now. However I have in my tree somewhere the following individuals that are supposed to be buried in Valley Grove Cemetery in Upson County: Newt Waller and his wife Sarah Margaret Eubanks Waller b. 10 Mar 1906 in Taylor Co Ga d. 11 Apr 1981 in Upson Co Ga I got this info from one of my relatives. What I need is for a willing, helpful soul to actually visit the cemetery or the courthouse to find more info on these two people. I am unable to do this myself because I now live in South Carolina. I would be happy to reciprocate for anyone needing records from the eastern South Carolina area (Florence, Georgetown, Horry, and Williamsburg Counties) Oh, by the way, Sarah's parents were Howard Griffith Eubanks and Annie Clyde Windham of Taylor Co GA. Thanks to anyone that can help.

I have been trying to get some old pictures and have some to share of William's grandchildren, but need his and wife and any out there and info of course. ...thanks again for the time and help.

Diane Caldwell asked me to share this information with you about their work on the Old Mill/ Soldier's Cemetery in Thomaston. You'll recall that she has been working on this and has shared with us some of the items she has uncovered. Please pass this along to anyone you know who might be interested in this and if anyone has family buried there or knows about the cemetery itself, Diane would love to hear from you. power2000@gnat.net Dear List Members I am writing to everyone about fund-raising efforts to restore and maintain the Old Mill Cemetery in Upson County. The task of restoring this century-old cemetery will not be easy, nor will it be quick. In the past, funds were sought from local governments, which sponsored sporadic cleanups but offered no long-term solutions. The Soldier's Cemetery/Old Mill Cemetery, founded in 1867 and 1897. Part of this cemetery was for the Confederate State Soldier's, and another part was for the African-American people of Thomaston. What is known by many to be the Old Mill Cemetery is the resting place of many wonderful people that continue to touch many lives a century later. Hidden behind thick brush, vines and trash, poison ivy and thorns is a wealth of history that seems forgotten. Only one tall monument peeks above the tangle. This is the last resting place of Mollie Walker, and she seems to be saying "I will not be forgotten." Every one of those graves has a story to tell, and its up to us to listen. The names on the tombstones are a record of the community, and reminds us all where we came from. We owe a debt to the people buried there, and we must honor those who helped us succeed in spite of any obstacle that may come our way, for we owe a debt to the dead. In an effort to restore beauty and respect to this century-old cemetery, and many others in Upson County, I am conduction a fund raiser....This is where you can help. As you know, we rely heavily on the good will and continued contributions of good friends like yourself. I would appreciate any help that you can provide big or small Sincerely, Diane Caldwell 1602 US-Hwy 80 Culloden, Georgia 31016 To make a donation through PayPal please visit http://www.paypal.com Make payment to: power2000@gnat.net

Sorry about your Dad, Kathy. This is a sad time for his family and many friends, I am sure. There will be a gathering of some of your kin who are linked in various ways through the McDaniel or Black ancestry from Upson and Talbot Counties, GA. That is certainly true of the McEachern-Black links. This year the McDaniel and Related Families Reunion will be in Senoia, Coweta Co., GA, Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the Senoia United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. We'll gather around 11:00 a.m. for lunch and visits and stay until all of the food has been eaten, stories told, pictures shared and more taken. You may recall that my parents home, nearby, was the set for the Threadgood Family home in the 1992 movie, "Fried Green Tomatoes." We are planning to hold the reunion alternately between Upson Co. and metro Atlanta to give folks more travel options. This year we're back in metro Atlanta. Do stay in touch. Barbara
