I'm hoping someone on the list may have some information about this newspaper. Does anyone know what newspapers the Archives in Thomaston has? >From: [email protected] >Date: Fri, 5 Jul 2002 12:34:44 EDT > > >I am looking for any listings of the "Palladium", a newspaper printed in >nearby Lumpkin in the mid-1800s. Who were Leola's parents/sibings and grandparents? I am also attempting to link up with Elizabeth McDaniel, b. 1812 GA, and who married Duncan McEachern, b. 1803, NC, in Pike Co., GA, on 3 Mar 1833. Elizabeth's sister, Susan McDaniel, b. 1805, GA, remained with Duncan and Eliza until at least 1880 as is evidenced by the Fed Cenus for that year in Erath Co., TX.. Duncan was in Pike County before 1827;and in Monroe County, GA, for the 1850 Fed Census. Duncan was likely brother to Archibald McEachern, b. 1808, NC, and who appeared in the 1850 Census for Pike Co., GA. Archibald's son, Neil (James N) married Permelia Jane Reynolds in Upson Co., GA, on 2 Sep 1856. Archibald (wf Mary Monroe), Duncan, Neil and Permelia, and their son James H., b. 1859, were all in Calhoun County, AL, for the 1860 Census. Neil apparently died during the war between the States. Widow Permelia and son were recorded as being in Calhoun for the 1866 AL State Census. Duncan and family were gone by then--apparently to Texas--as was suggested in Permelia's wartime letter. She referred to an "Uncle Duncan" in this connection and as "how much she enjoyed tenting with Uncle Duncan's family". Still trying to determine my Great Great Uncle Neil McEachern's military affiliation and date/place(VA?) of death. I'll appreciate any clues to explore. Details for Neil's parents available.

I have no information on his parents, but he is my gggrandfather. He married Sarah Morgan and they eventually migrated to Tallapoosa County, Alabama. They had a son whom they named "Green". Since this is an unusual given name, I wondered if there might be a connection. Josie Turner

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Dd.2ADI/179.346.1 Message Board Post: The author of the remark that "Neil McEachern died at Gettysburg" was did not provide an identification. So, as a followup, I am asking that person, since the place of death is apparently known, was there also a military unit associated with Neil? I know that Neil McEachern, with wife Permelia Jane (Reynolds) and son James H., was in Calhoun County, AL, for the 1860 Census.. Neil's younger brother, Duncan, volunteered there for the 3rd AL Calvary on 2 June 1862 at Jacksonville. I can't, however, find a Neil nor a James N McEachern on any AL roll, nor proven for any adjacent State roll. The McEachern surname is spelled in as many different ways as it is pronounced. It is often written interchangably with other similar appearing but definitive surnames. To this end, I am now looking at one James N McCaghren, who was with Co. B (Calhoun Sharpshooters), 5th AL Regiment, as a possibility. I know that B Company was recruited in Calhoun, sent to VA, and there suffered huge losses! ; but that is all I know until I get a response from the National and State Archives. In the meantime, can someone help me solve this puzzle?
