With fall weather coming, I'm hoping that we can get more people back at their computers and sharing information.....especially on Upson County. I'm in the process of trying to build some Cemetery Listings to place on-line for Upson county. I realize that these have been published in book form, but we'd like to have individuals contribute their information adding other facts to it. I've been told that there are some mistakes in the transcriptions (and some times there are mistakes on the tombstones themselves)....so please pull out your files and type up what you have. This is where I will post them: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/upson.htm If you could send me the information on your ancestors buried in any Upson Cemetery, that would be so helpful. Use this format: PERSONS, Mrs. Malinda Ann Lyon b. March 13, 1825 d. March 15, 1908 (wife of Lovatt Persons) She is a descendant of the Lyon family of Yatesville, probably the daughter of Rev. James Lyon. Virginia Crilley

My gg grandmother Eleanor Means had a younger brother (James Anderson Means) who married an Elizabeth Allen. Later, William Herman Means married Allie Sullivan. Also, Madison McClanahan married Katie Sullivan. Most of my family I can track into the 1600-1700's in Maryland and Virginia. Lindsey Smith has been more elusive. There was one post stating Zachariah Smith had two sons (Lindsey and Singleton) in Elbert County, but no solid documentation.

I'd really like to confirm a sibling for Lawrence. Elbert Co seems to be a regular route to migrate down into other GA counties too. By the way, the MEANS also married into my ALLEN and SULLIVAN lines too...they really got around. Keep diggin, maybe we'll come up with something more.

Hello Listers, I am looking for information on the family of Jordan Moore, born abt 1798 in NC, and wife Averilla (also Avy, Avey) ??? born abt 1795 in North Carolina. They appear on the 1830, 1840, and 1850 censuses in Upson County. There are several other Moores in the area that appear to be related - particularly Woodward Moore. The family moved from Upson County to Coffee County, AL sometime between 1850 and 1855. I descend from Jordan and Avy Moore's daughter Bethina Moore, who married Washington Gunter abt 1865 in Coffee County, Alabama. Any assistance will be appreciated. Jack Butler

Moore family of Upson County, found mostly in the Thomaston-Upson Archives in Thomaston, GA. There is an extensive Moore file researched and written years ago by Upson County genealogist and historian, Jack Morgan. I know of no connection of Charles to the Moore ancestry that I seek, other than geography, but perhaps many of the early Moore Upson County, GA pioneers were kin. My records have Charles W. Moore (b abt 1810) m Ann Elizabeth Harris. It seems that Charles was widowed before the 1850 census. For, at this time his household is listed as Charles W. Moore, saddler, age 40, Ann T 45 or 14 (probably his daughter), Charles J 13, Fran T 9, Margret 7. There is another entry for a Charles W. Moore on page 110 of the Early History of Upson County, 1930 by The Upson Co. Historical Soc. Charles drew land in District 561. The Listing is for "parties in Upson County who drew land in other parts of the state in 1827, and the Cherokee Lottery". I also found a January 19, 1856 deed record to a Benj. Bethel, where Charles W. Moore is named as trustee for his children. Since the 2000 RootsWeb postings, I have learned more about the family of my great-great grandmother, Mary Annie Moore (1827-1899) who m James Richardson Black. Mary Annie had siblings John Jackson Moore (1822-1887) who m first Mary Ann Trice and second Laurie Hightower, Obediah Franklin Moore (1823-1903) who m Frances Ann Trice; and Mary Elizabeth Moore (1831-1850) who m James Banks Colquitt. Their parents are thought to be James Howard Moore (b bet 1791-1800) and Jane Hollifield (b 1803 d Jan 19, 1864). The parents of James Howard Moore are thought to be George Moore (d 1855) and Rachel Williams. Rachel was the daughter of John B. Williams and Susana Mourning. Barbara McDaniel Ray Atlanta, GA
