IN MEMORIAM Eddie Lee Bethel was born in Thomaston, Ga. Aug. 18th 1901 and died at the home of her parents August 29th 1916. Death is sad at all times and especially in the passing of this dear sweet girl just blooming into womanhood and giving promise of a long and useful life. She was an affectionate child and the love for her father, mother, her only sister, and two brothers and Aunt Dollie was indeed, often coming in and throwing her arms around her mother and father saying "mamma I love you" "Papa I love you." Her brief stay on earth is a reminder of the uncertainty of life.
In Memory of Mr. Pink Hudgins On March the 28th at the sad hour of 12:30, The death angel visited our home and took from us our sweet Papa and Dear Husband. Papa was sick only about 2 hours. All was done that could be done for him by loving hands and a kind physician in his short illness. Papa was 50 years old, a loving father and a devoted husband, to know him was to love him. He always had a word of cheer for everybody; always came home so glad to see us. He would come in and tell sweet mamma "I slipped in on you" and would laugh. He is gone, my precious Papa. He is sleeping neath the clay, calmly sleeping till the dawning Of the resurrection day. But those tones are hushed in slumber ,Toil stained hands and laid to rest and he has gone to join the number of glorified and blest. Oh joyous home now desolate a circle broken and gone. A vacant chair at the table, a lonely family left to mourn. Sleep dear papa sweetly sleep. God thy soul will guard and keep While thee we sigh and mourn. Sleep dear papa sleep. He leaves his widow, Hettie Hudgins, one daughter, Odessa Hudgins, one son, Howard Hudgins, three sisters, Mrs. Annie Deloach, Mrs. Florence Deloach, and Miss Lizzie Hudgins, and a host of other relatives all of thomaston to mourn his departure. Written by his daughter, Odessa Hudgins

Ellington, I will try to write a few lines in memory of my loving father. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Ellington; was born in Upson Co, Ga. August 9, 1862. He was the oldest of seven boys and two girls. He was married to Miss Lillian Adams, Nov. 27, 1883 and to this union were born 3 children: T.B. Ellington, of Augusta, Ga. and J.B. and Braxton Ellington of Howard, Ga. He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Primitive Baptist at Good Hope and was baptized by Elder S.T. Bentley in Oct., 1886. He always attended his meetings and was never to busy to go when the time came. Papa was always Loyal to his Church. He was sick about six months, but was confined to his bed more than a month. Papa attended his meeting in August and visited Howard a few days, but when he came back home he said he would never leave any more until he would be carried to the Cemetery. On Saturday, before he died on Tuesday, he sang so sweet "I'm going home". On Tuesday Oct. 13 1914, he fell asleep in Jesus. The remains were laid to rest in Howard Cemetery Oct. 14. in the midst of a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives. 'Tis so hard to give up our loved ones and know we will never see their sweet faces again in this Cruel world. He leaves a Vacant place in our home which can never be filled and a voice we loved is forever stilled. We hope that God will give us grace sufficient to be submissive to his holy will. Hello, I am searching for the family and parents of Emile Wright Matthews(my great grandfather), born circa 1876. His daughter's birth certificate states he was from Upson Co, and his age at her birth suggests 1876 as his birth. I have searched the archives and message boards, and I have seen a lot of Matthews' families, but I do not know where Emile belongs. I also noticed some Wrights, so my thinking is that perhaps Wright is his mother's maiden name. The only other information that I have is that he had a sister, Sally, who lived in Pike county as an adult. Emile moved to Augusta, GA, married, and spent his entire life there. I believe the family was Methodist. Any and all help appreciated. Here's the answer about the lady who organized the first Confederate Reunion... Her husband was actually killed in the WAR... she organized it for his men !! http://hometown.aol.com/c259786/page2.html This tells her WHOLE Story..... and a photo...and it was 21st regiment Co A. ==========Joe Baggett's site tells the whole story ===== Company A, 21st Ga. also included Lizzie Camp Glover's brothers Joseph, Benjamin and Charles D. Camp. Another brother, Thomas B. Camp, was killed at Chancellorsville. Lizzie Camp Glover lived briefly in Douglas County, Ga., in the 1880s before moving to Indian Territory then to Corsicana, Texas, where she was active in veterans' organizations. She died on April 14, 1915, and is buried in Corsicana's Oakwood Cemetery with daughter Augusta, 1861-1925, her husband Alonzo C. Johnson, 1854-1914, and their son Earle Clay Johnson, 1888-1961. Other children were Mamie Glover, 1852-1878, buried at Campbellton, wife of Eugene H. Beck; William, born 1855; and Clara, born 1859. Dr. Glover's brother Joseph S. Glover was a 1st. lieutenant of Co. A (shown as absent, wounded, Aug. 31, 1864). Their brother John F. Glover, 1828-1877, left descendants in Douglas County. Carol just came up with a good idea... wouldn't it be nice to try to distribute these "burials" to the states and troops where they came from....and maybe get some more identifications for them. We have our Georgia Men on-line.... http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gafiles.htm Both by rosters and by alphabetical listing.... As usual I need a volunteer who might be interested in doing ONE state... and thoroughly posting it on Query Boards.... both Surname, State and even CSA Military Boards --- to try to locate the person and find out his family. http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/boards/gacwmb/index.cgi? This is one of the BEST for CSA. Seems like MS is the other state that has the most. I've never researched Civil War in MS... has anyone?
