WOODSON The death of Mr. H. V. J. Woodson occurred Wednesday, May 2, at his home in the County. He had been in declining health for several years. His funeral and burial occurred at Friendship Church Thursday at 11 o'clock. Mr. Woodson was 66 years of age. He is survived by his wife, three sons, J. J. Woodson, Herschel Woodson, Curtis Woodson, and two daughters; Mrs. Abe Boyt of Barnesville and Mrs. Alvah Hancock of Upson Co. The funeral arrangements were handled by C. M. Pasley & son, funeral directors.
BOY KILLED BY MAD BULL Jack, the 12 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Shumate, who live a few miles southeast of Thomaston, was killed by a mad Bull last Friday morning early. Jack, with a younger brother, had been sent to the pasture with the cows. They turned them in and after they had done so the Bull attacked them striking Jack in the back with his head, the shock it is believed, breaking the boys back and neck. After knocking the boy down, the animal butted him on the ground. The younger brother and some other boys near ran for help but when it arrived Jack was breathing his last and died in a few minutes. The funeral and burial of the young boy were held Saturday morning, the funeral taking place at the Baptist church in Thomaston, and the remains being intered in Glenwood Cemetery. The sudden and horrible death of the young boy was a great shock, not only to is parents and family but to all the people of this community. The people of the community deeply sympathize with Mr. Shumate and family in the sudden and sad death of their loved one.
Mrs. Martha McLendon Thompson, 69 Mrs. Martha McLendon Thompson, age 69, of 2062 Sombrero Way, Atlanta, GA. died Friday, Feb. 26 1993, at Dekalb General Hospital, Decatur, Ga. Graveside services and interment were held Monday, March 1, 1993, in South View Cemetery, Thomaston, Ga., Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Thompson, the daughter of the late W.l. McLendon, Sr. and the late Mary Evans, was a native of Upson Co., and had made her home in Atlanta since 1956. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, Mr. Silks L. (son) Thompson, Atlanta, Ga; one sister, Mrs. Edea Fossette, Stone Mountain GA; One Grandson, Mr. Jiff Thompson; and one granddaughter, Miss Tammy Thompson, both of Confers, Ga.

Mr. Douglas Thompson A graveside service was held for Mr. Douglas Thompson, 84, 292 New Harmony Church Rd., Thomaston, Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1993 at 11 a.m. Mr. Thompson died Monday, Aug. 30, 1993 at Upson regional Center in Thomaston. Coggins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Thompson, a retired carpenter, is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Faye T. Adams and Mrs. Diane T. Albers, both of Thomaston; Three sons, Mr. Donald Thompson of Jacksonville Fl., Mr. David Thompson and Mr. Tyson Thompson, both of Thomaston; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
MR. HERBERT C. THOMPSON Funeral services for Mr. Herbert C. Thompson, 78, of 410 Cherry Street were held Monday, Dec. 26, 1994 with the Rev. James C. Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Southview Cemetery. Mr. Thompson died at Riverside Nursing home. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Thompson was born in Upson Co. He attended Hightower Memorial Methodist Church. Mr. Thompson was survived by his wife, Mrs. Pauline Gilbert Thompson of Thomaston; a daughter, Mrs. Shelby Quick of Williamson and a son Mr. Tyrone Thompson of Zebulon; Five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
THOMPSON Robert Jefferson "Bobby" Funeral services for Mr. Robert Jefferson "Bobby" Thompson, 76, of Waymanville Road were held Friday, Feb. 25, 2000 at 4 p.m. at Hew Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Darnell Teal and Rev. Junior Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Upson Memorial Gardens. Mr. Thompson died Wed., Feb. 23, 2000 at the Atlanta Medical Center. Five Brothers; Mr. Charles, Jimmy and Moses Thompson of Barnesville, Mr. Hugh Thompson of Thomaston and Rev. Junior Thompson of Phenix City, AL. Five sisters, Mrs. Martha Gibson of Thomaston, Mrs. Sara Hearn and Mrs. Linda Walker, Mrs. Joyce Waller, all of Barnesville and Mrs. Betty Wilson of Wilner, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
BRUMBLELOE Mrs. Martha Brumbeloe died at her home near Meansville Tuesday after an illness of 9 days. The Funeral and burial occurred at Shiloh Baptist church Wednesday, Rev. J. E. Baron officiating, Stephen's Undertaking Company in charge of arrangements. Mrs., Brumbeloe was 70 years of age and survived by her husband W. R. Brumbeloe and three children, Jim Brumbeloe and Willie Brumbeloe of Meansville and Mrs. Ada Earles of near Thomaston. The deceased was a member of Shiloh Church.
Rich Mauldin Mr. Rich Mauldin died at his home in Thomaston Saturday, May 16 and was buried Monday May 18, in Glenwood Cemetery, Elder S.H. Whatley, officiating, with C.M. Pasley & Son, undertakers, in charge of arrangements. He was 54 years of age and si survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Smith Mauldin and one sister and one brother.
PIONEER CITIZEN PASSES AWAY Mr. James Madison Jones died at his home in the city Monday morning after an illness of several weeks. Sometime ago he was stricken with Flu and was never able to recuperate from it. The funeral and burial of Mr. Jones occurred Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. from the Methodist Church. The exercises were conducted by Rev. S.R. England, pastor of Thomaston Methodist church. Many beautiful floral arrangements covered the casket as it lay in the Church attesting the affection and esteem of his friends which the dead man bore. The body was laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery at the conclusion of the funeral rites. Mr. Jones was twenty-five years of age and a life long resident of this community. He was one of the family of 12 children, of which the following survive: J. C. Jones, Sr., Misses Mary and Nancy Jones of Thomaston, W.I. Jones of Shellman, Jerry Jones of AL. The deceased was preceded to the grave by five years by his wife who was Miss Signa Ora Stuart. He is survived by the following children. Misses Ora and Mae Jones, Mrs. Irma Parker, Messers O.W. Jones and G.L. Jones all of Thomaston. He leaves nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
RESOLUTIONS BY BETHLEHEM CHURCH ON THE DEATH OF MRS. LUDIE SMITH. It is with deep regret and saddened hearts that we in our feeble way undertake to bring this tribute of Love, record the Death and loss of our Beloved Sister, Mrs. Lude Smith, who fell asleep in Jesus March 4th, 1925. She was born Oct 30, 1861, and married Brother Bob Smith April 16th 1882. To this Union was born eight children. four sons and four daughters, all surviving her except on noble son who preceded her to the grave several years ago. She united with the Primitive Baptist Church at Bethlehem & was baptized by W. W.Childs. In her home she was a faithful devoted Christian wife and mother. In the passing of Sister Smith, there ended a beautiful life. She was sick for several weeks and suffered intensely at time. She was so tenderly cared for, everything done possible to relieve her suffering. She was laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery, Funeral services were conducted by Elder W.W. Childs, Speaking words of comfort to he dear beloved ones.
MRS. LENA KNIGHT DEAD Mrs. Lena Knight died at her home in the city Wednesday morning at 8 o:clock after a lingering illness. She had been an invalid for several months and was stricken with paralysis about a week ago. Since the Stroke she had been gradually sinking and the end had been hourly expected. Mrs. Knight was a niece of Col. M. H. Sandwich and Mrs. B. G. Lee. She was a member of Thomaston Baptist church. The funeral will be held at the home probably Friday morning and interment at Glenwood Cemetery.
Funeral Held For Ed Storey Here Wednesday Final rites were held Wednesday for Edgar B. "Ed" Storey, 62, who died at his residence on Avenue L Tuesday. Mr. Storey, a city employee who has been serving as sexton of the cemeteries and parks, died following an illness of long duration. Services were conducted by Rev. Thomas Dews with Rev. Herbert Morgan assisting, from the First Presbyterian Church Wednesday at 3:30pm. Internment was in Southview Cemetery. Mr. Storey was a native of Upson County and had spent his lifetime here. He was a member of Olive Camp 109, Woodmen of the World. He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Fallin Storey, three daughters, Mrs. Roy DeLoach of Atlanta; Mrs. Ted McSwain of Savannah and Mrs. J.D. Rickman of Macon and one son Charles Edward Storey, U.S. Air Force, Warner Robins. In addition, survivors include five brothers, Marvin Storey, Thomaston; Ivey Storey, Lynn Haven Fla; Travis, Lloyd and J.W. Storey all of Columbus and one sister, Mrs. Mike Carpenter of Winder. Mr. Storey is also survived by four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Coggins-Trice Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Hilda Leona Glanton Hilda Leona Glanton, daughter of Mr. Paul M. Glanton, died October 22 at her home in East Thomaston at the age of 2 years old. The Funeral was held at t he home of her grand-mother, Mrs. W. B. Walker, Oct 23rd, Rev. Mr. Ballard, Pastor E. Thomaston Baptist church officiating. the body was buried at Atwater Cemetery Stephens Undertaking Co. in charge of Arrangements.
Rodgers The infant daughter, Agnes, of Mr. And Mrs. Elmer Rogers died at their home in East Thomaston Oct. 27. The body was carried by Stephens Undertaking Co. to Bloodworth Cemetery, Taylor County, The following day for Burial.
FORMER UPSON RESIDENT DEAD Mrs. George McKenney died at her home in Hapeville Monday and was buried Tuesday at College Park. She was 75 years of age and a member of Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Oriene Pearson. Mrs. McKenney formerly resided in this County with her family but moved away about 20 years ago. She is remembered by many older residents.
Jernigan Mrs. Alice Jernigan, a widow died suddenly at 303 Jones Ave. on January 23. Her body was carried to Phenix City, AL. for Burial. Stephens Undertaking Company being in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by three daughters. She had lived in Thomaston four Months.
Funeral Notices Mrs. Addie Kendrick died at her home about 11 miles from Thomaston on last Friday after an illness of one week. The funeral and burial took place at Good Hope Church on Saturday, the exercises being conducted by Elder W. W. Childs of Yatesville, Stephens Undertaking Company having charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hendrick is survived by her husband and five children. She was 38 years old and was the daughter of the late Isaah Elliott.
IN Loving Remembrance of Charles Alexander Maze He had taken sick on Saturday night, Sept. 12th at about twenty minutes past eleven and died on Sept. 17th at five minutes after eight a.m. He was survived by wife and five children and six grandchildren. He was 60 years old the 3rd day of August, 1925. When we are called to our last resting place, we shall see his smiling face.
