E. Williams and claimed as its victim Hoyt Tyrus, their two year old son, and bore his sweet spirit home to God. Oh, yes; there is a small community south of Augusta in Jefferson County, I believe, that is named Matthews....perhaps there is a connection? Mark, outside of Augusta

    1. [GAUPSON-L] 1894 Wyatt Blasingame Obit
    2. Lynn B. Cunningham
    3. The Pike County Journal Zebulon, Pike Co., Friday, August 3, 1894 An Old Landmark Gone Mr. Wyatt Blasingame of Upson County died at his home last Friday. He was the father of our efficient clerk, Judge T.J. Blasingame. The remains were interred at Shiloh church cemetery on Saturday. Mr. Blasingame was born in South Carolina May 16, 1806, and moved to Jones county, Ga., in 1822, and from there to Upson county where has lived for 40 years and reared a large family of children, eight of whom are living now - the youngest being 52 years of age. He was a deacon in the Primitive Baptist church for years and was regarded by those who knew him as a model Christian gentleman. It was rather a strange coincidence that Mrs. Blasingame, the wife of the deceased should have been buried on July 25, 1874, and Mr. Blasingame placed beside her on July 25, 1894 - exactly 20 years afterwards. The country misses such men, but no one can doubt that they are immeasurably benefited by the great reward promised to the faithful. (Transcribed 9/24/02 Lynn Cunningham)

I actually like reading the obits and stories of people on an individual basis, even though I have no connection to them as yet. I think it really relates to the era and to the mindset of the the people of the times. No one today would even think of printing a gruesome story of how someone died. I guess, back then, in a small town no less, it would have been gossip and "common knowledge" so they printed it to get the facts straight! Seeing the individual posts also reminds me to volunteer. I appreciate the volunteer effort that those on this list take. Without that, I'd be no where, and without volunteerism in general, this board and genealogy in general would be a pain or nonexistent. Thank you Lisa and Virginia and Lynn and Pat and other volunteers! 1. [GAUPSON-L] A thank you to Lisa Graham and Virginia.
    2. Lisa and Virginia; thank you so much for the orbits that you are typing and putting on line for us to search and read. I have already found two family connections that I would not have had if you had not shared this with us. I'm from AL and FL and would be very hard for me to make the trip to Thomaston. Not only that; I would not have even known about these two people in my tree. Keep up the good work. I enjoy looking each day for new information and new names. Sincerely, June
