    2. MRS. J. M. Ellington Dead (widow) Mrs. Lucretia Rogers Ellington, widow of the late J.M. Ellington, died at the home of her son, W.S. Ellington, in Thomaston, Monday June 26, 1916, after an illness of ten weeks. The remains of the deceased were laid to rest in Glenwood cemetery Tuesday morning after a funeral service at the Methodist Church, the exercises being conducted by Rev. J.M. Tumlin. Mrs. Ellington was 75 years of age having born in Upson Co. Feb. 11, 1841. She was united in marriage to Joseph M. Ellington, June 18, 1861, who died July 21, 1915. She leaves nine children as follows: C.S. Ellington, W.S. , E. S. , E.R., F.M., J. H. , and L.C. Ellington, Mrs. Mattie Thompson, of Shellman, Mrs. Ella Shumate. Mrs. Ellington was a member of the Methodist church. To the members of the bereaved family the Times extends sympathy on the part of the people of the community. Other info- Daughter- Ella Ellington Shumate married John Earnest Shumate Ella- 12/1/1880- 9/2/1963 John- 7/6/1877- 3/6/1951 both Glenwood Cemetery also, tombstone of daughter of Joe M. I am going to the GA. web page & scrolling to The Rock in Upson Co & it just doesn't give me the new version. Does anyone have any idea why it will not ? Lisa

    2. Mr. Z. T. Smith Dead Mr. Z. T. Smith died ay his home near Roland in Upson County Monday, June 26, 1916. Mr. Smith was 68 years of age having been born in Talbot County July 7, 1848. The deceased was a Confederate was a Confederate Veteran. He joined Company "E". First Georgia Regiment in May 1864. He was captured by Wilson's Raiders in April 1865 and was afterwards paroled. To the relatives of the deceased the people of the county, extend sympathy.

    2. Mrs. Lizzie Hannah Dead. Mrs. Lizzie Hannah, relict of the late Dr. G. W. T. Hannah, died in her home in this city Sunday morning. She had been in declining health for sometime. The funeral and burial of her remains occurred Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the Presbyterian church, the body being laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery. The services were conducted by Dr. J. R. McMullen and attended by a number of sorrowing relatives and friends. The deceased was 62 years of age and a member of the Presbyterian church. She was the THIRD wife of the late Dr. G. W. T. Hannah. No children born of this union. Mrs. Hannah is survived by several sisters. Her estate is valued at probably $30,000. Other info- Lizzie T. Hannah died 2/6/1916 Dr. G. W. T. Hannah 6/30/1841- 2/3/1906 William H. Hannah, son of Dr. & Lizzie Hannah d. 8/6/1889 Another wife of Dr. Hannah's was Addie G. Dr. Hannah & Addie G, had a son John Teleford Hannah who died 10/25/1893 at age 20. Also an infant son & infant daughter w/no dates They are buried together at Glenwood.

    3. I arranged to have the digest mode delivered from the Upson list hoping to be able to sort through these messages someday. I am now receiving the digest, but still continue to receive the e-mails individually. At the risk of sounding ungrateful I simply do not have the time to sort through this much mail. I have followed the procedures to unsubscribe from the individual list and I believe Virginia tried for me as well. Any suggestions? I simply can't find the mail I must attend to daily with this much coming in from one list - help! I appreciate the efforts, and have been involved in similar projects and know the time it takes.

    2. Mr. J. T. Dozier Buried Here Thursday. The Macon News of Wednesday had the following account of death of Mr. J . T. Dozier: "Funeral services of J. T. Dozier, who died last night at his residence on Lynn Ave., will be held this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at Burghard's, 718 Cherry Street. Rev. W. N. Ainsworth, Rev. J. E. Seals, Rev. J. E. Sampley will conduct the services. The interment will be in Thomaston tomorrow morning. Mr. Dozier was one of the best known men in the city, For twelve years he was superintendent of the Methodist Orphans home here. News of his death will be received not only in Macon but through out the State. He is survived by two sons, George L. and W. C. , of Macon and five daughters, Mrs., A. J. Schell of Vienna; Mrs. J. L. Brooks, of Indian springs; Mrs. W.W. Bennett, Macon; Mrs. J. C. Bland of Savannah, and Miss Susie Dozier of Savannah." Mr. Dozier formerly resided in this community and married an Aunt of Col.     2. IN Memorium On the morning of Jan. 16, 1916, death's angel visited the home of Mr. A. T. Dean and took from there a beloved wife and mother. She leaves a husband and four little boys, a loving father and mother and a host of relatives and friends to mourn for her. She was 27 years, three months and 23 days old. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Kelley, the only child. Mamie, we miss you so much. She called mother to her bedside shortly before she died and said "mamma you put my little children to bed and then put me to bed." On Wednesday night before she died on Sunday morning, she prayed and sang so sweetly in a feeble voice "Jesus lover of my soul." Burial services were conducted by Bro. J. Hubert Hardy in the home of her grandfather, J. D. H. Thompson, and remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery to await the resurrection morn. Thou no more shall join our number, Yet again we hope to meet when the days of life have fled then in heaven with joy to greet thee, where no farewell tear is shed. Your loving Aunt.

    2. H. H. Rogers Dies The people of Thomaston are sympathizing with Mr. E. F. Rogers in the death is his Brother, Mr. H. H. Rogers, which occurred recently in Lancaster Texas. The account of his death as is appears in the Texas paper as follows: H. H. Rogers, 81 years of age, died at his home on the West Pike Wed. at his home at 7:27. His death was caused by the infirmities of old age. Mr. Rogers was one of the true pioneers of this Country, having lived near Lancaster for 45 years. He was a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church. He was known all these years as a successful Farmer, having reared a large family of 8 boys & girls. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Rogers and by his children, Charlie, John, Milt, Mrs. E. S. Demino, Mrs. Hattie Roberts, Walter, J. O., Mrs. Estelle Murray. Funeral services were held in the Lancaster Bapt. Church Thurs. afternoon at 2 P.M. The services conducted by Rev. E. F. Cole. Interment was in Edgewood Cemetery.

    2. Mrs. Martha Catherine Sappington nee GRAHAM died in Thomaston GA June 8, 1925. She was the daughter of Reverend William Harper Graham, a pioneer Ga. Methodist Preacher, and Mrs. Permelia Graham. She was born in Meriwether Co. Jan. 5, 1852 and moved with her parents to Monroe County as a child. She was married in 1872 to Newsome Asbury Sappington of Monroe County and lived there until the death of her husband in 1915. She then went to Thomaston to make her home. She is survived by the following sons & daughters.

    2. Beloved Pioneer Passes Away Monday morning at about 5 o'clock the spirit of Mr. P. C. King left its earthly home and winged its way to celestial realms. "Uncle Pete", as he was lovingly called by the people of the community, had been ill for about six weeks, having been stricken a short time before Christmas with rheumatism, the only serious illness he had experienced, it is said. The funeral and burial of Mr. King Occurred Tuesday morning at 10 o;clock at the First Baptist church. Rev. Charles S. Durden, the pastor, had charge of the exercises, and was assisted by Elder S. H. Whatley, pastor Grace Primitive Baptist Church, and Reverend S.R. England, pastor Thomaston Methodist church. A beautiful service was held, splendid talks being made by ministers. The body was laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery. Mr. King was born and reared in Upson Co. He was born 83 years ago on the 9th of January. He lived about three miles West of Thomaston until about twenty-five years ago when he moved to town. 58 years ago he married Miss Carrie Grantland Brewster also a resident of Upson Co., who survives him. To this Union was born six children.
