    2. Obituary On the nineteenth of April, 1916, the death angel came and gently bore away the spirit of a dear one, James Eugene Dumas. He was born in Monroe County. Dec. 29,1879, and while an infant moved to Upson County where he was raised. He gently fell asleep on the date above mentioned, making his stay on earth 36 years. He was taken with pneumonia and then grew worse. On Wednesday at four o'clock he quietly passed away where there is no more sickness, trails and sorrows into that land of love and happiness. Eugene was not a member of any church but his belief and faith was of the Primitive Baptist. He leaves a wife, five children, loving father, mother, brothers, sisters and lots of relatives and friends to mourn his departure. Oh, it is sad to part from our loved ones, but the good Lord knoweth best. His remains were laid to rest at Trice's cemetery there to await the coming of Jesus. We must try to be reconciled to God's will and wish not this Loved one back. We loved him, yes we love him, But Jesus loved him more, So He came down and took him To yonder shining shore. A dear one is gone, but not forgotten. Written by his loving sister Clyde Dumas Other- James Eugene Dumas 12/29/1879 - 4/19/1916

    1. [GAUPSON-L] Barkers in Upson Co.
    2. Kerry Hammock
    3. I have information regarding the location of the graves of John and Allie (stephens) Barker and some of his children. The tombstones were pulled into a creek several years ago (early 60's) by an irate farmer who purchased the land. My grandmother took me there in the mid-60's. I wrote down what I could, but it wasn't very much. The water, algae, and time had worn them down pretty good. The children of Mary Smith Barker (Elijah's wfie) worked for a while to restore some of these markers. Some of these graves were only a few years old at the time. I seem to recall documents in the Superior (?) Dourt records in the early 60's that dealt with a court case where the farmer was ordered to restore the graves, but he died before this happened. I will try to talk with family members who may still recall what happened. If anyone knows more please let me know. If anyone who live in he area is interested I can give you directions. Let me know.
