    1. Re: [GAUNION] Union County Library
    2. Donna, It has been a couple of years since I was in the B/ville library but at that time they had no records and no plans for any. I sent an e-mail off to a member of the Friends of the Library group to confirm. If you are doing a trip to the B'ville area, I can suggest two places for research. The historical society is in the courthouse on the square and is building a decent genealogy library of both books as well as a few "unpublished" collections that locals have donated. Jane Thompson works for the historical society and is fabulous about helping folks find information. She is also born and raised in Union County and so has a lot of personal knowledge as well. She is there most days. The head of the historical society - Steve Oakly is not from Union County and doesn't have much interest in the genealogy. He'll likely point you to the bookshelves and you are on your own. There is a library in Young Harris (next town over), I believe it is called the Mountain Regional Library that has a very nice genealogy collection and they would be more inclined to have microfilm records available. Again, it has been a few years since I have been in there, but they have always been most helpful. There are quite a few records available in the courthouse in Blairsville in the Probate Judge's office and they are very nice about providing access. Marriage records, court records, voting lists, birth and death are all in the Probate office. All but birth and death, you can peruse on your own. I was there just this past Thanksgiving holiday time and they were great as always. Land records are in the same building but a different office. Like Probate, they are very helpful and friendly. I would suggest calling ahead to be sure of hours and what's available. Good Luck!
