    3. Thanks Betty, I spent a whole day looking through all the spellings. It amazes me how names get changed from one census to the next. I did find that David is Joseph's father, they were living together on the 1850 census and right next door was Meredith - so because of birth years I am assuming that Joseph and Meredith are brothers. I should be happy with that much - but like a true addict once you find a piece you want more. Soooo looking for David's history and his wife Sarah's maiden name and if there are more children besides Joseph and David. The Colwell name has a big write up in the Heritage of Lumpkin County, Georgia book 1832-1996. But these Caldwells appear to be pretty consistent.
