ROSE: William D. Teague was one of a set of twins---his sister was his twin. Her name was MARY LEVINA TEAGUE. They were born about 1834 in Union County according to my information. Their father was Merriman Teague and their mother was Anna Coffee-Teague. There was a total of 10 children in that family. William D. Teague was sheriff of Union County, GA on two different occasions. The first time was the period of March 1, 1864 to January, 1867. The second time was from 1881 to 1885. According to my information, William D. Teague married my Grand Aunt Nancy Rich in 1875 when she was 45 years old and he was 40 years old. She was too old to have any children; however, the 1880 census records for Union County show that there were two boys living with them, ages 13 and 10, which I assume were William's children by a previous marriage. My Grand Aunt Nancy was buried in the RICH CEMETERY in the Owltown District of Union County when she died in 1914. I have no record of when William died, but it must have been previous to 1914 and it appears he was buried in the HARMONY GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY. The first person buried in the RICH CEMETERY was John Rich in January, 1889, so it was open for business from that time on. If William D. Teague died after that date I do not know why they chose to bury him in HARMONY GROVE, unless it was his request that he be buried there. You asked who was that TEAGUE buried next to him. It is a hand-made tombstone and it is very difficult to read the first name. The first name looks like it might "Eate." That is not a name I know, so I do not know who that person is. It is probably one of William's kinfolk and maybe that is the reason he was buried there. That is about all I know about William D. Teague. I hope this is helpful. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Rose.
