    1. [GAUNION] W. D. TEAGUE and GRAND AUNT NANCY "Nan" RICH
    2. DEBBIE WOOLF: Perhaps I used the wrong term for my Grand Aunt Nancy when I said she was "too old" to have any children. Instead of using a general term of "too old" I should have given the facts. My Grand Aunt Nancy really did NOT have any children. In 1870 when she was 40 years old she was living with her younger brother, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Rich and keeping house for him. At that time her 3-year old niece, Carrie, was with her at Grand Uncle Jack's house. She was keeping Carrie for her older brother, Martin Van Buren Rich, whose wife had died. When she married W. D. Teague in 1875, she still had Carrie with her and she kept her niece until her niece married Richard England. So those two boys that were living with W. D. Teague and Grand Aunt Nancy MUST have been W. D. Teague's sons by a previous marriage, because they certainly were not Grand Aunt Nancy's children. I concede it is possible for women to have children at 45, but it is usually those women who have had several children previously. A 45-year old woman having a FIRST-TIME child is living dangerously as you will have to admit. The boys were born prior to her marriage to your ancestor, probably were his by a previous marriage, or they could be hers, adopted by him. The kids would have been born when she was 38 and 40, not really too old to have kids. My grandmother had her last about age 40-42. She had 8 kids, married in her early twenties and they were all spaced at least 2 years part. One of my aunts had no children (couldn't they said) and then got pregnant in her mid 40's. It happens sometimes to women who thought they were menopausal too. Maybe a last burst of hormones. Anyway, I wanted to comment to be cautious about assumptions. Averages are fine, but when it comes to genealogy I've seen some weird things. Teague was one of a set of twins---his sister was his twin. Her name was MARY LEVINA TEAGUE. They were born about 1834 in Union County according to my information. Their father was Merriman Teague and their mother was Anna Coffee-Teague. There was a total of 10 children in that family. William D. Teague was sheriff of Union County, GA on two different occasions. The first time was the period of March 1, 1864 to January, 1867. The second time was from 1881 to 1885. According to my information, William D. Teague married my Grand Aunt Nancy Rich in 1875 when she was 45 years old and he was 40 years old. She was too old to have any children; however, the 1880 census records for Union County show that there were two boys living with them, ages 13 and 10, which I assume were William's children by a previous marriage. My Grand Aunt Nancy was buried in the RICH CEMETERY in the Owltown District of Union County when she died in 1914. I have no record of when William died, but it must have been previous to 1914 and it appears he was buried in the HARMONY GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY. The first person buried in the RICH CEMETERY was John Rich in January, 1889, so it was open for business from that time on. If William D. Teague died after that date I do not know why they chose to bury him in HARMONY GROVE, unless it was his request that he be buried there. You asked who was that TEAGUE buried next to him. It is a hand-made tombstone and it is very difficult to read the first name. The first name looks like it might "Eate." That is not a name I know, so I do not know who that person is. It is probably one of William's kinfolk and maybe that is the reason he was buried there. That is about all I know about William D. Teague. I hope this is helpful. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Rose. SOLOMON HOWARD RICH
