Hi All, Today, I have added a photo of an African American lady, Caroline "Linney" SMITH b. 1854 GA to our Fannin Co., GAGenWeb site. It's on our Fannin Docs page http://www.rootsweb.com/~gafannin/FanninDocs.htm Linney was enumerated as being in the Elias Berry " E.B." BOWERS household in 1920 Fannin Co. as: SMITH, Caroline Svt F B 66 S GA US NC Chamber Maid She was the chamber maid for the Old Central Hotel, Blue Ridge, GA owned by E.B. BOWERS at the time this photo was taken...circa 1925. The young child in the photo with her, is my mother who dearly loved Linney. Don't laugh, those 'Buster Brown' hair cuts were the norm back then...LOL I believe that Linney SMITH came with the BOWERS family from Ivy Log, Union Co., GA abt 1908 but I'm not sure. Most of the African American population left the North Georgia Mountain regions after the Civil War. Linney was not with the BOWERS family in 1910, only 1920. The former owners of the this hotel were the CURTIS family prior to 1918 and she may have lived with them. Hope this helps some one out....
