Georgia, why do you think it's the JONEs and not LONGs with Cherokee? reason I ask is that there is a record of a James LONG (I think it's in Fannin Co.) where descendants claim he was part CHerokee. If that is true, I don't think it was through Uly CANSLER (her lines are suppose to be all German). That would make James LONG Sr. the prime suspect....and as I understand it, James Sr. and Levi are brothers. This was not common info. (the Cherokee) and maybe hard to prove. I don't think they waited to sign up for their citizenship rights (alot did not, as there was no trust in the Federal Government...hmm, wonder why?). Let me know what you think about the LONG questions. I would imagine that would make Ted's great grandmother, Elizabeth "Betty" Jones LONG 1/2 Indian. Betty married Levi LONG in NC. Their daughter, Margaret, married Boyd WILSON in Union Co, GA in 1853. I'm very surprised with this new information. Does anyone have any JONES that claimed Indian blood? It's my understanding this was a well guarded secret. I don't know why I assumed it was the JONES, I guess because I didn't think the LONGS had Indian blood. I have heard the story of a LONG living with the Indians after he killed that man for trying to take his land. This had to be before the revolution. And I also have received some info a WILSON buying property for his Indian girlfriend so she didn't have to live on the reservation in NC. That was another shock. I just learned this info yesterday while we were out of town for a wedding and we were all sitting around the table having breakfast. My aunt said she had seen pictures of Margaret LONG WILSON's brothers and sisters and they all looked like Indians. There are also stories in my family of pictures of Indians being destroyed. I have tried to do some research in the Indian rolls today but other than a John Wilson I haven't found any LONGs or JONES.
