Don't know if this will help or not, but my 3G grandfather was also in 5th TN Mtd. If you live close enough to visit Murphy in Cherokee County, NC, visit the museum there and ask to look at Mr. Bob BARKER'S papers. They are on microfilm. He was a well-known historian and the research he did for his last book [which wasn't published] were donated to the museum when he died and they contain a lot on the members of the 5th TN Mtd.
