    3. I also had several uncles who worked and retired from the Copper Mines in Polk co. TN. Uncle Augustus "Gus" and Elisha "Mockingbird" NELSON lived into their 90's. They died within a week of each other. But one brother, George was killed in the mines. Their grand father Elisha Hedden NELSON Sr. was born May 30,1844 in Union co. GA. He was in the Civil war CO.C,5 Tenn. MTD.INF. **He is buried @ Reids Chapel, Hiwassee,Cherokee co.,N.C.. He loved to read Novels and when he went blind before he died he had other people read to him. He named my mother, Verdie, after someone in those novels. I am still in search of more info. on his parents who I have very little on. --------------------------- #173-183 NELSON,Gus 33 married @age 28 laborer in copper mine Dovie 20 married @age 16 Bauzelle son 1 8/12 Elias 29 single brother * (This is Elisha) ------------------------------ 1930 Census Polk co., dist. #3 TN Ducktown unincorporated April 7 ED # 70-9 Sheet # 10-B Mrs. Dollie Taylor enumerator #172-182 NELSON,G.W. 31 married @ age 29 NC NC UNITED STATES laborer in mines Maybelle 19 married @ age 18 TN TN UNITED STATES Imogene 1/12 dau. ------------------------------- *These Nelsons lived in the area all their lives.
