This is for PatriccaV@aol.com. I am a Lance decendant also. However, my information is somewhat different. There were two John Lances which adds to some confusion. One was married to Jane Jones, the other was married to Sarah Caroline Turner. I am in the line from John and Sarah. I think Samuel Riley Lance who was married to Rebecca Hunter was the son of John Lance Jr. 1787 Branches: John Henry Lance Jr. (b.1834 or 33) Samuel Riley Lance (b. 1814) (parents: John and Sarah Ann Murray) John Lance Jr. (b. 1787) John Lance/Lentz (b. 1758) Peter Lentz (b. abt. 1733) Hans Petras Lens/Lentz Heinrich Lentz I would be interested in any info you can share Thanks, Kathy
I have in my possession a photograph that has 10 people in it and 3 different surnames written on the back--Fair (my own), Lince (Lance?) and White. The photographer was Tomlinson of Athens, TN. Seven poorly handwritten names listed on the back of the photo (does not seem to be in any order) are confusing: Mr Virgle White (looks like an "s" may have been added later to the "Mr") indicating the oldest female (early 20s) may have been a White. Mr Virgle Lince (which may be the oldest male, balding, under 30 and husband of above) Mr J.M. Fair (could be James M. (likely for Madison) Fair, son of my G/G/GF, Archibald Fair, of Monroe County, TN (lived in Cherokee County, NC 1840 to about 1867) Mr Charley Fair (my G/GF, son of Archibald) settled in Union County, GA, married Sarah WHITE Mr Jim Lince (one of the boys, about 8, looks like the father, presumed to be Virgle Lince, in this group) Mr George L. Fair (Archibald also had a son named George but his middle initial was "W." which probably stood for Washington The man and wife each are holding a very small child which both appear to be girls. The picture originally came from the home of my G/GPs, Charles Fair and Sarah White. My question to you is this--Do you have any Lince/Lance/Lentz relatives (Virgil or James) who may have lived in the area around Athens, TN prior to 1900? ----- Original Message ----- From: <Kproaps@aol.com> To: <GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2003 7:45 AM Subject: Re: [GAUNION] Copper Mines > This is for PatriccaV@aol.com. > I am a Lance decendant also. However, my information is somewhat different. > There were two John Lances which adds to some confusion. Do you have the parents of Sarah Caroline Turner? I am researching the Turner line. My gggrandfather was Bailis E. Turner, married to Elizabeth Darnell (1) then to her sister, Eleanor Darnell (2). Would be interested in any descendants of either wife.
