The Union County Cemetary Book is excellent; however, it only lists gravesites with marked headstones. It is not an accurate record of the actual burials for the cemetaries in Union County. I know that most of my GA ancestors are buried in Union County Cemetaries, but they are not listed in the book because their markers were wooden instead of stone. Wooden markers disintegrate; thereby leaving an "unmarked" grave. I would like to see a book listing official burial records instead of a survey of marked gravesites.
Hi All, just wanted to tell you all that we have added a few more cemeteries to our database: http://www.cemeterysurveysinc.com 1-Mt. Herman Baptist in Fannin Co., GA 2-Mt. Pleasant "The Hill" in Union Co., GA 3-Union Hill Cemetery in Macon Co., NC 4-We have also redone the cover page, it's not the mountains of Andrews anymore...we will start changing the cover page periodically, so that those of you who do not live in this area, will see how absolutely gorgeous it is in our little piece of heaven! 5-We have added Military and Reunion pages to our website. Nikki has been taking the military personnel on our website, and indexing them not only alphabetically by names, but also by Branch of Service, and by Cemetery. Nema has gone to a couple of reunions, and put those pictures on the internet. She requests that if anyone has pictures of more reunions, to please send them to us, and we will be happy to put them online for you. 6-We had a great turnout at our chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting. We have posted the COC picture on the the website, you can link to it from the cover page. We will also have an article in the North Georgia News next week (??), which will also be posted on the cover page. Please take a look at the new cemeteries, let us know what you think of the new articles, and also the new cover page. Linda: Have you checked the 1890 census from Blairsville? If you don't have access to it, let me know the names and I will search the census for you. I also have copies of the census from several previous years if you want me to check them as well. Let me know. Vicky
I subscribe to the North Georgia News and it is delivered to my home in Michigan. It is very affordable, my paper is always there and has been virtually hassle free in the two years since I've subscribed.
I have been following the Lance emails here and I too, am a descendant from this branch. A lot of my info is documented from the actual gravestones and also a wonderful book from the Union County Historical Society on the history of Union County, GA. I have Volume I and they are currently putting together Volume II. This is the info I have: John Henry Lance b. July 24, 1808 m. to Jane Jones, b. Sept 24, 1801. Both were born in Haywood County, NC. John's father was Samuel Riley Lance/Lentz b. 1768 but was married to Rosannah Saultz on April 3, 1786. Amongst many other children, they did have a son named Samuel Riley Lance who was married to Rebecca Hunter. The branches proceed as this: 5. John Henry Lance b. Jul 24 1808 4. Samuel Riley Lance b. 1768 3. Peter Lentz/Lance b. 1732 (in Heidelburg, Germany) 2. Johann Peter (Hans Petrus) Lentz b. 1710/1711 (in Postoroff, Germany) 1. Heinrich Lentz b. Abt. 1655-1686 The Lances/Lentz arrived from Germany to Charleston, SC in 1750. If you are able to get your hands on the Volume I book from Union County, it is well worth the $50.00. Unfortunately I lent my out so I cannot look up the name "Spivey" since I do not see it in my trees. I have looked in the Union County Cemetery Records book (another great book which lists all the graves in Union County through at least 1996). It shows several dozen entries for "Spivia" or Spiva" but there are no Spivey's listed. Could this be an alternate spelling?
The Collins man lived in OHIO.
Kathy, I would try Lumpkin County records. The Lance family mostly were in that county. My great Aunt, Verby Jones, married Merritt Lance. They lived in Alabama after they were married. They were married in Fannin County, Georgia. Lumpkin, Union and Fannin counties are all right together. Peggy Kproaps@aol.com wrote: > Hi, > I have been interested in your emails.
