    2. Joe, Is the book to which you refer the one written by Edna Simpson? I have lots of info on the family ancestry. My intent with the email was to seek living descendents that I do not already know, so that we might trade recent info and photos. Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it. 3. My great-grandfather , Elisha Leander Sullivan was a brother of Mary Ann Harriet Sullivan. The information I have is what is included in the genealogy of The Sullivan Mashburn family. Elisha and Mary Ann Harriet's parents were Mashburn and William Sullivan. The genealogy I am referring to is entitled Sullivan-Mashburn and Allied Families of Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. If you do not have a copy one is still available at a very modest cost. In addition to significant history of Mary Ann Harriet Sullivan's ancestors it does include a great deal of information about the descendants of William and Rebecca (Mashburn) Sullivan. A limited amount of information is included on the children of John Jackson Odom and Harriet Sullivan Odom and on the grandchildren. This includes the children of Washington Lafayette and some of his grandchildren. If you will provide me with the necessary information I would be glad to send you copy of what I have referred to concerning John Jackson Odom and Mary Ann Harriet Sullivan. I can also obtain the address of the individual you would need to contact if you are interested in obtaining a copy of the very entailed genealogy of The Sullivan-Mashburn family. 3. Thank you Vicky, I'll get back to you on this. I'll ask you when I know I can answer back in a timely manner... in other words whenever my family "doesn't have something planned" and I can sit and do my genealogy. My great grandfather James A. Spivey (Spiva) was b. 1864 in Blairsville, the 9th of 10 children born to Adniram & Evaline Souther Spivey, then Eveline died after Steven was b. in 1865 and a few years later Adniram married Sarah Hazeltine Corn and they had 5 more children. I had lots of family in Union Co., Ga. 3. Yes the alternate spelling is indeed my family. I've actually seen it spelled "what seems like a million different ways", but the two you gave are the same. Spiva is the original spelling of our name but some changed it to Spivey along the way, my father for one. Anything with Spivey or anything that even sounds remotely close is probably one and the same. Linda May ----- Original Message ----- From: PatriccaV@aol.com To: GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2003 2:45 PM Subject: Re: [GAUNION] Copper Mines I have been following the Lance emails here and I too, am a descendant from this branch. A lot of my info is documented from the actual gravestones and also a wonderful book from the Union County Historical Society on the history of Union County, GA. I have Volume I and they are currently putting together Volume II. This is the info I have: John Henry Lance b. July 24, 1808 m. to Jane Jones, b. Sept 24, 1801. Both were born in Haywood County, NC. John's father was Samuel Riley Lance/Lentz b. 1768 but was married to Rosannah Saultz on April 3, 1786. Amongst many other children, they did have a son named Samuel Riley Lance who was married to Rebecca Hunter. The branches proceed as this: 5. John Henry Lance b. Jul 24 1808 4. Samuel Riley Lance b. 1768 3. Peter Lentz/Lance b. 1732 (in Heidelburg, Germany) 2. Johann Peter (Hans Petrus) Lentz b. 1710/1711 (in Postoroff, Germany) 1. Heinrich Lentz b. Abt. 1655-1686 The Lances/Lentz arrived from Germany to Charleston, SC in 1750. If you are able to get your hands on the Volume I book from Union County, it is well worth the $50.00. Unfortunately I lent my out so I cannot look up the name "Spivey" since I do not see it in my trees. I have looked in the Union County Cemetery Records book (another great book which lists all the graves in Union County through at least 1996). It shows several dozen entries for "Spivia" or Spiva" but there are no Spivey's listed. Could this be an alternate spelling? ==== GAUNION Mailing List ==== NOTICE: Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political/religious statements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. 3. I doubt if that would be possible. Old cemeteries were usually family plots or church cemeteries. Until very recently no burial records were usually kept by the families or the churches. -----Original Message----- From: Bmore286@aol.com [mailto:Bmore286@aol.com] Sent: Friday, October 03, 2003 11:52 AM To: GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [GAUNION] Re: GAUNION-D Digest V03 #78 The Union County Cemetary Book is excellent; however, it only lists gravesites with marked headstones. It is not an accurate record of the actual burials for the cemetaries in Union County. I know that most of my GA ancestors are buried in Union County Cemetaries, but they are not listed in the book because their markers were wooden instead of stone. Wooden markers disintegrate; thereby leaving an "unmarked" grave. I would like to see a book listing official burial records instead of a survey of marked gravesites. ==== GAUNION Mailing List ==== NOTICE: Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political/religious statements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal.
