    1. Re: [GAUNION] W. D. TEAGUE and GRAND AUNT NANCY "Nan" RICH

    3. Okay I got your point...you ruled out your Aunt Nancy as the mother of the boys. I guess my aunt lived dangerously, since in her mid 40's it was her first and only child. She had adopted two others before this, because she was told she would never get pregnant. Sometimes life is funny....it doesn't always make sense. 3. why do you say she was too old to have children at age 45? the boys were born prior to her marraige to your ancestor, probably were his by a previous marriage, or they could be hers, adopted by him. the kids would have been born shen she was 38 and 40, not really too old to have kids. my grandmother had her last about age 40-42. 3. Have you ever exchanged with Don Fortner? He does alot of FORTNER research in Union Co. region and I saw a query he was looking for "Jackson Fortner" data, the info. he posted was Jackson FORTNER md. Polly HOOD and they were living in 1870 Pickens co. SC and disappeared. He was looking for their burial and any other info. he could find. If this is your "Jack" he might be of help. Don has been searching the Timothy FORTNER line out of SC, which also came into our GA region, and maybe my link, though a Jesse Harrison FORTNER. I just can't seem to find the connection but there has to be one, for instance a son of his md. into the SHELTON line and this SHELTON line I'm almost certain of is the same that my James Manuel THOMPSON md. into. We just can't seem to find the parents ! <G> Don's email on this query was dfortner@scetv.org <dfortner@scetv.org> and if that doesn't work let me know...he is on a few of my lists....and I can find him. I hope I'm not confusing you. 3. Judy, there is a small cemetary near Union Church, Fannin County. The large cemetary across the highway from Union Church is Frontier Cemetary. It is generally refered to as Union Church Cemetary but is not part of that church. Mr. Setser, a member of the church told me this. Just out side the big cemetary is a small one with Fortner graves. You have to go into the woods south of the cemetary to get to it. I was searching for my own Stansbury line and went there to see if it was a part of mine. It wasn't.......I am almost certain these are Fortner graves. I will check it out in the coming week or so and get back to you. There is a possibility it is Fortenberry graves. It has been a long time since I was there. I hope it is Fortner for your records. Just bear with me. I am old and grouchy and take my time. LOL. Happy new year to you from Fannin County. . Regards, Peggy Jo

    3. Judy, I don't think that's the William but do you mind sharing the census data? Reason being I'm trying to figure out if a few kids were hers before she md., or his, and the names may match those I am looking at. I "thought" Wm. Columbus FORTNER was the son of Jesse Harrison FORTNER and Dorothy (Hand?). Jesse lived in Lumpkin Co. GA but his son md. in Fannin Co. GA 1871. I suppose the one you found could be him, and Lovada left him, although I thought she was widowed. She was found as HH in 1880 Gilmer Co. GA. Her marraiges are questionable, and the names of her children as well. It seems they changed names as she claimed marriages, for instance in 1880 they were FORTNERs but many of those children later became "Davis" and we can't be sure if she actually married a Davis (joseph is the name given) or if they made it up and she was hiding from something. It's all very confusing and records don't seem to straighten the mess up. Her children's death certificates do have Joe Davis as father of the kids. I tend to think that was the 'oral history' whether right or wrong and nobody really knows. 1880 contradicts they were DAVIS children, since they were listed as FORTNER and her marraige is found in 1871 to FORTNER, thus you would think those born between 71 and 80 had to be his. 3. I looked in Fannin Co GA 1880 census and found a widower by the name of Wm. Fortner who was in his 60s. I presume Lavada was a marriage after they were older, since there were a couple of others. OR, she could have been the mother of the children that were living with him. I'll keep looking and I do thank you for the names and dates. it gives me another lead. The Lavada and Fortner were just too much to overlook. 2. J.C.: I received a copy of your e-mail to JIM BAUGHMAN asking if the Wm David Teague and Rebecca M. had a son Willim who married Eliza Morgan. The answer is NO. Eliza Morgan was a sister to my grandmother Clarissa Amanda Morgan-Rich. Eliza Morgan married John R. Teague Feb 24, 1878. Eliza was born in October, 1852. John R. Teague was the son of my Grand Aunt Mary "Aunt Pop" Rich who married the brother of W. D. Teague. According to my information his name was Elija V. Teague. I am double kin to the children of John R. Teague and my grand Aunt Eliza Morgan because of the cross-marriages of these people. Both Elija and W.D. were sons of Merriman Teague and Anna Coffee. Eliza Morgan was the eighth child of Samuel "Sam" Morgan and Hannah Nicholson-Morgan. My grandmother was their 5th child. I have more information on Sam Morgan and his wife Hannah Nicholson. 2. JIM BAUGHMAN: Although I told you in my e-mail below that I did not think your William David Teague was the same as my W. D. Teague, there is still the same birth year for both of them. However, the census records of 1880 for Union County, GA shows him as being born in Georgia. Of course, as you know, census records were not always correct in some respects. The census takers were always in a hurry and they sometimes did not copy down the correct information. That could be the case for William D. Teague. I have no records showing his middle name, but it could have been David. Since there are a great many similarities it is possible your man and my man could be the same person. I sent an e-mail yesterday to the GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com addressed to Rose Birdwell wherein I gave some additional information about William D. Teague. I am sure you probably read it. Look it over and see if your information coincides with any of the information I had in the e-mail. If it does, we may have the same man. Let me know. Thanks. By the way, I live in Charlotte, NC. I was born and reared in Union County, GA. When I was 17 we moved to Cherokee County, NC and lived there for awhile. I went into service there during the war and when I got out in 1946, I married and finished high school in Murphy, NC. I moved to Asheville, NC in 1947. I moved to Charlotte in 1950 and I have been here ever since. Do you live in Cherokee County, NC? Are you any kin to the TEAGUE's? Thanks. D. TEAGUE buried in the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Union County, GA. The W. D. TEAGUE I have in my genalogy data base was born in 1834 in Union County, GA. He was one of a set of twins---his twin was his sister named MARY LEVINA TEAGUE. Their father was Merriman Teague. Based on that, they are not the same person. 2. J.C. I have no children for this couple who are a collateral line for me. I am descended from William David's younger sister Sarah Jane. Sorry I could not help. Jim

    3. Jim: Saw your letter regarding Wm. David Teague m. Rebecca M. Does this couple have a son Willliam who married Eliza Morgan b. 1852? I haven't been able to get back further than these listed. 2. ROSE: William D. Teague was one of a set of twins---his sister was his twin. Her name was MARY LEVINA TEAGUE. They were born about 1834 in Union County according to my information. Their father was Merriman Teague and their mother was Anna Coffee-Teague. There was a total of 10 children in that family. William D. Teague was sheriff of Union County, GA on two different occasions. The first time was the period of March 1, 1864 to January, 1867. The second time was from 1881 to 1885. According to my information, William D. Teague married my Grand Aunt Nancy Rich in 1875 when she was 45 years old and he was 40 years old. She was too old to have any children; however, the 1880 census records for Union County show that there were two boys living with them, ages 13 and 10, which I assume were William's children by a previous marriage. My Grand Aunt Nancy was buried in the RICH CEMETERY in the Owltown District of Union County when she died in 1914. I have no record of when William died, but it must have been previous to 1914 and it appears he was buried in the HARMONY GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY. The first person buried in the RICH CEMETERY was John Rich in January, 1889, so it was open for business from that time on. If William D. Teague died after that date I do not know why they chose to bury him in HARMONY GROVE, unless it was his request that he be buried there. You asked who was that TEAGUE buried next to him. It is a hand-made tombstone and it is very difficult to read the first name. The first name looks like it might "Eate." That is not a name I know, so I do not know who that person is. It is probably one of William's kinfolk and maybe that is the reason he was buried there. That is about all I know about William D. Teague. I hope this is helpful. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Rose. Can you tell me more about W.D. Teague? Also, the stone next to his, also a Teague, who was that? I will add the information as soon as you send it, giving you credit, of course. And if there is any more info that you want to add about anyone in that cemetery, please let me know. Merry Christmas Rose
