Homer lived in Lafayette, Ga . He passed away quite a few years ago. He was Jasper's son by his second marriage and my father-in-law Bobby Barnes half brother (Robert). His wife passed away several years ago. She was a very sweet lady. Do you have any information on this family? Jerri, You are correct. However, according to my info Ezekiel b. abt. 1760 had a son named Lewis b. bet. 1798-1799 who I show being married in abt. 1817 to Luvicia Nicholson b. 1802. It really gets confusing when we get back this far because of the duplication of names. I have not confirmed any of this information this far back so it is certainly open for correction. The info that I have came from Rootsweb.com "The Descendants of James Akin, Sr.Family Page" and "The Lewis Akins Family Page." Keep me informed. Randy
I show Ezekial b. abt 1760 as the son of Lewis b. abt 1734. ----- Original Message ----- From: <RandyG31@aol.com> To: <GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 02, 2004 9:31 PM Subject: Re: [GAUNION] James Wiley Mathis > Hi Jerri, > My Sarah Rosetta Akins is the daughter of Joseph G. Linda, I have met a Homer Barnes who may be the one you are referring to. His wife was related to my Stewarts of Union County. Kathi Bobb
My husband's grandfather was Jasper Barnes who lived at one time in Union County. I was told he was in the 1910 Union County census but can't pull this up on the computer. His wife then was Susie Logan, children Hillard, Lovella, Bobbie and Homer. We were told they came from N.C. around Mt. Mitchell but are not sure. All the census I have found list his parents and himself as coming from N.C. His first wife was Elizabeth Boone or some say Harriett Louise Boone. In the 1920 census he list his birthday as 1851 and in the 1930 census he list it as 1844. More of his children were Mary Baskie, William Basscom, Minnie and Marcie. Some of the Barnes still live around Blairsville. If anyone had any information on this family especially where Jasper came from or his mother and father's name I would really appreciate it. Thanks Linda Barnes
Hi Jerri, My Sarah Rosetta Akins is the daughter of Joseph G. Akins and Mira Elizabeth Flowers. Joseph is the son of John Akins/Aikens Sr. John Sr. is the son of Ezekiel Aikens/Akins who is the brother of your Lewis Akins. What do you know about the surname Akins/Aikens. I picked that up from a website. Do you know if the spelling actually changed during this generation? Randy
Billy, hey, thanks anyways....you never know. Randy
I honestly don't know. I don't have any information on Daniel's siblings or parents other than his mother was Elizabeth and his father was possibly William. Randy

Hi Billy, Thanks for the response. I would appreciate it if you could look a little further into that for me. It is certainly possible that James had additional children after leaving Sarah and your information may just be another avenue for me to take in trying to find him. Thanks again, Randy
Hi Barbara, It does seem that we may have the same family here. My Daniel was born in 1813 also. I have his mother listed as Elizabeth but I don't have any further information on his mother or father. I have lots of information on James Mathis and Sarah Akins and their descendants that I'd be happy to share with you. I would like to know more about the info that you have on Daniel Mathis and his parents. And of course I'm still trying to find out what happened to James Wiley Mathis and his sister Milly L. Mathis. If anyone has any info on this family I would certainly love to hear from you. Thanks again Randy

Hello Everyone, I am looking for information on James Wiley Mathis. James was born around 1860 to Daniel Mathis and Amy Hood. He married Sarah Rosetta Akins in Union County. He and Sarah had 7 children all of which were born in Union County. The last of the child was born in 1908 and after the birth James left Sarah alone with the children and moved away. Sarah later moved with the children to Rome, Floyd Co., GA. However it seems that James simply disappeared. I would appreciate any information that anyone may have on James or his ancestors. Thanks, Randy

I have a friend who had her first child in her mid forties. It was a very odd circumstance. She had been married for twenty years and wanted children but was never able to concieve. She developed breast cancer and had to have a mastectomy. As a result of the mastectomey something changed in her hormones and suddenly she was able to concieve. She now has two children. Fine healthy boys around 20 years old now.
DEBBIE WOOLF: Perhaps I used the wrong term for my Grand Aunt Nancy when I said she was "too old" to have any children. Instead of using a general term of "too old" I should have given the facts. My Grand Aunt Nancy really did NOT have any children. In 1870 when she was 40 years old she was living with her younger brother, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Rich and keeping house for him. At that time her 3-year old niece, Carrie, was with her at Grand Uncle Jack's house. She was keeping Carrie for her older brother, Martin Van Buren Rich, whose wife had died. When she married W. D. Teague in 1875, she still had Carrie with her and she kept her niece until her niece married Richard England. So those two boys that were living with W. D. Teague and Grand Aunt Nancy MUST have been W. D. Teague's sons by a previous marriage, because they certainly were not Grand Aunt Nancy's children. I concede it is possible for women to have children at 45, but it is usually those women who have had several children previously. A 45-year old woman having a FIRST-TIME child is living dangerously as you will have to admit. The boys were born prior to her marriage to your ancestor, probably were his by a previous marriage, or they could be hers, adopted by him. The kids would have been born when she was 38 and 40, not really too old to have kids. My grandmother had her last about age 40-42. She had 8 kids, married in her early twenties and they were all spaced at least 2 years part. One of my aunts had no children (couldn't they said) and then got pregnant in her mid 40's. It happens sometimes to women who thought they were menopausal too. Maybe a last burst of hormones. Anyway, I wanted to comment to be cautious about assumptions. Averages are fine, but when it comes to genealogy I've seen some weird things. Debbie ========================================================= From: <solrich@juno.com> To: <GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 25, 2003 7:14 PM Subject: Fw:[GAUNION] Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Union Co ROSE: William D. Teague was one of a set of twins---his sister was his twin. Her name was MARY LEVINA TEAGUE. They were born about 1834 in Union County according to my information. Their father was Merriman Teague and their mother was Anna Coffee-Teague. There was a total of 10 children in that family. William D. Teague was sheriff of Union County, GA on two different occasions. The first time was the period of March 1, 1864 to January, 1867. The second time was from 1881 to 1885. According to my information, William D. Teague married my Grand Aunt Nancy Rich in 1875 when she was 45 years old and he was 40 years old. She was too old to have any children; however, the 1880 census records for Union County show that there were two boys living with them, ages 13 and 10, which I assume were William's children by a previous marriage. My Grand Aunt Nancy was buried in the RICH CEMETERY in the Owltown District of Union County when she died in 1914. I have no record of when William died, but it must have been previous to 1914 and it appears he was buried in the HARMONY GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY. The first person buried in the RICH CEMETERY was John Rich in January, 1889, so it was open for business from that time on. If William D. Teague died after that date I do not know why they chose to bury him in HARMONY GROVE, unless it was his request that he be buried there. You asked who was that TEAGUE buried next to him. It is a hand-made tombstone and it is very difficult to read the first name. The first name looks like it might "Eate." That is not a name I know, so I do not know who that person is. It is probably one of William's kinfolk and maybe that is the reason he was buried there. That is about all I know about William D. Teague. I hope this is helpful. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Rose. SOLOMON HOWARD RICH
