David... Give the Union County Historical Society a call (706-745-5493) or e-mail them at history1@alltel.net and see if they can provide you with an answer. I'll bet Dale Elliott would be able to tell you about the gold mines in the Union County area, and maybe he'll even know something about the Legal Tender Gold Mine. What does the will that you have say in reference to it and when was the will probated? Hope this helps you! ----- Original Message ----- From: <dboeh@comcast.net> To: <GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 11, 2004 6:35 PM Subject: [GAUNION] Legal Tender Gold Mine > Does anyone know anything about a "Legal Tender Gold Mine" in or near Union Co? I don't know where it is. But I will see if I can find it for you. Many of my ancestors came from that area. JANICE PATE: Janice, frankly I do not know much about Jeremiah Rich. I know his first wife was Jennie Nix and she is buried in the Rich Cemetery in the Owltown District of Union County. They had several children. When she died Jeremiah married again, but I do not know who he married. It might have been a lady named NAOMI. In the 1920's and 1930's he ran a little general store in Blairsville and some of his descendants still live in Blairsville, but I do not know them. He was buried there in Blairsville, Ga in Blairsville Cemetery, but I do not think he had a marker at his grave site. My great grandfather was Solomon Hill Rich, Sr and he had one brother who was named Robert "Bob" Rich. Jeremiah was probably a descendant of Robert "Bob" Rich. I am going to check into that later with Fred Rich and find out if Fred knew Jeremiah. Fred is a descendant of Robert "Bob" Rich and he might have known Jeremiah. I am sending a copy of this to the GAUNION-L website so that those who are on that mailing list will see it. Perhaps someone who knows about Jeremiah will respond to this and let us know something. Keep in touch. I will try to get back to you later. Thanks. I have info on Amy's parents and their descendants, just a little on the Mathis line, but have a promise of some more on Daniel's mother's line. Will forward it on to you when I get it. Amy's brother, Earl A. Hood was my great great grandfather, so I have more on that line than any of the others. I can use a text, rtf or a gedcom. Thanks. BARBARA MASON: I noted where you gave a link to Judy Lowrey about Census records. I got into that Internet site and noticed it listed nearly ALL census years, but when I tried to get into 1870 & 1880 a message came up saying those were not available. I got into 1860 OK but not 1870 nor 1880. Am I doing something wrong or are those years really not available?? While looking for some data on James LONG of Union Co. GA I came across a DUNCAN site, which lists James LONG selling to J. DUNCAN some land as follows: B-150: Union Co. GA, 7 Jan. 1861, James Long of co. afsd to Lumpkin J. Duncan of Jackson Co. GA, $800, lots in 9th Dist. 1st Sec., #322 and #323, each 160 acres; wit. T.J. Haralson, Andrew Young JIC. (FHL film 366,310) This same site has alot of data on the DUNCANS, including census, in the 1850 they post about Delilah DUNCAN ADDINGTON age 88. What interests me is that James R. LONG's mother was also named Delilah and she was about the same age. His mother Delilah "LONG" filed for divorce in Mecklenberg or Caburrus Co. NC abt 1804 from his father "JAMES". She was not granted one but was given the rights to her own affairs. She disappeared about the time James LONG came to Union co. and we can find no trace of her, or a remarraige. COULD the Delilah below have md. more than once? Does anyone know when her ADDINGTON husband died? I'm also interested in any info. on Mary THOMAS DUNCAN in this census. James LONG had a granddau. who md. into the THOMPSON or THOMAS family. 1850 Union Co. GA Census Pg.201, #9, Charles DUNCAN 75 VA farmer Mary 75 VA (MAD: from Buckingham Co.
