Gayle, I have been using google search for your family. I'm not really lucking out, but have seen enough now to realize that your Garretts may not be part of mine. If they are, it's back aways, but still see the site I told you about and take a look. Your GARRETTs, MASHBURNS actually came out of the same region of NC as my LONGs and are intermd. I have no direct lines to them, but know that several were married into the collaterals. I also have THOMPSONs which I am stuck on. If you find you have any links to any of those names let me know. Have you checked the Garrett genforum yet? In 1998 Mona Hura posted a great descendancy chart and then in 1999 Ruby Goldman posted additional. I took a peek at it and could not find your family, but you might be able to find Elisha on it. go to http://genforum.genealogy.com/garrett you can find the descendancy charts I'm talking about by putting HURA in the search line and then go back and put in Ruby Goldman I am a GARRETT from Union Co. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gayle Garrett To: GARRETT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, August 07, 2004 6:16 PM Subject: [GARRETT-L] Re: GARRETT ROLL CALL! - Elisha Garrett /William Elisha Garrett Looking for some information on my great great grandfather. He was born William Elisha or Elisha Garrett in 1849 in Union County Georgia. Son of William Elisha Garrett b: June 01, 1817 in Burke County, North Carolina & . I got some information from my great grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Garrett's death certificate & obituary. I also can identify my great great great grandparents William Elisha b: 1817 in Burke county, North Carolina & Mary Mashburn from a 1880 Census Place: Flint, Benton, Arkansas, Source: FHL Film 1254038 National Archives Film T9-0038 Page 323D. Here is what I have listed below. I have a gap of several years in not knowing where or what Elisha was doing. This I need filled in. Thank you Gayle M.Garrett Benjamin Garrett was my great granddad b: October 19, 1870 in Arkansas, Benton County All I had to go on was Benjamin's Death Certificate listing his parents were Caroline Daniels & Elisha Garrett & both were born in Georgia. --------- Every one kept suggesting Union Co., Georgia for the county that Elisha was born in. I have checked out as best I can several leads to counties in Georgia, This is the only one I have located that could very well be my connection. I received the census list listed below: from: Doyle Harper <dharper@carol.net> Union Co., Ga. 1850 Census 522 GARRETT William 34 NC Mary 37 NC Joseph 3 Elisha 1 Gone by 1860 ------------- William Garret 43, b NC, in Fannin Co., GA 1860 Census with Mary 48 NC; Joseph 13 GA; Elisah (sic) 11 GA; James 9 GA; Martha 7 GA; Mary 5 GA; Eliza 3 GA; & Louisa 2 GA. No Daniel(s) family in Fannin in 1860 or 1870 Census. William Garret(t) family not listed in 1870 Fannin Co. census. No marriage record for Elisha Garret(t) in Fannin Co. or Union Co., GA. Several Daniel(s) families in Union Co 1860 census, but no Caroline. A Wm. Daniels 32 GA & wife Martha 33 GA had a dau. Alsey C. 9 GA, in 1860 Union Co. census. This family not in 1870 Union Co. census. Good luck, Doyle Harper <dharper@carol.net> ------------- The dates & names tie in with my Garretts really well. The names Elisha, Joseph, Mary & James. My Granddad's name was Elisha Joseph Garrett & he had siblings with the names Mary & James. The Asley C. (possibly C. for Caroline), her age would have put her about 19-20 years old when my great grandfather Benjamin Garrett was born. Also the Garrett family does not seem to be in Fannin Co., Georgia in 1870, when my great granddad was born in Arkansas. I realize that part of Union Co., Ga. in 1850 by 1860 had become a part of Fannin Co., Ga. so the families may very well have still been living where they were in the 1850s, only the name of the county where the lived had changed. Realize that I have not proven that Asley is my Caroline, but it looks very possible. I am still looking for documentation that I can lay my hands on. Gayle M. -------------------------- 1880 Census Place: Flint, Benton, Arkansas Source: FHL Film 1254038 National Archives Film T9-0038 Page 323D Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace William GARRIET Self M M W 65 NC Occ: Farmer Fa: NC Mo: NC Mary GARRIET Wife F M W 67 NC Occ: House Keeping Fa: NC Mo: NC Martha GARRIET Dau F S W 26 GA Occ: House Work Fa: NC Mo: NC Mary GARRIET Dau F S W 24 GA Occ: House Work Fa: NC Mo: NC Eliza A. Hello Lynda, Thanks for contacting me about this family. This does look like the same Sara/Sallie Nicholson that married Jonathon Smith and secondly Moses Link/Lingerfelt. I have seen the census record that you mentioned with Mary Jane and children. The children you listed William Harrell? sp and Sarah C would most likely be my Great Grandmother Sarah Charlsey Taylor and her brother Harrell. I have never been sure if Mary Jane was her mother or her aunt as the mother was supposed to have died while Sarah was young.
I am trying to get all of the information I Can on the family so Please if you have any info on this family let me know thank you. My Line is James Nichols - Elizabeth James Thaddeus Nichols 1 - ? Beatty Adam Amaziah Nichols - Barbara Cansler (dtr of / Conrad Cansler & Barbara Rudisill) Amaziah Adam Nichols - Mary Jane McCollum (dtr of / Archibald McCollum & Eliza A. Parks) James T. The Dyer-Souther Heritage Association Reunion will be held at the North Georgia Technical College Conference Room in Blairsville, Georgia on Sunday, July 18, 2004. Registration begins at 11:00 a. m. Participants are asked to bring a covered dish meal to spread with the rest of the food for a grand feast at 1:00 p. m. Utensils and ice will be furnished. Bring food and tea or soft drinks--only enough for your family. We usually have so much food because people "over-do" in the amount of food to share. You are also asked to bring your family information such as family histories, old pictures, albums, and any stand-up displays for the "show and tell" at tables that will be set up for this purpose. Amy Sgro requests that you fill out a family information sheet to bring with you. She is entering information into computer for future reference and perhaps a reprint of Watson B. Dyer's 1986 Dyer Family History Book and his 1988 Souther Family History Book, both of which are out of print and sold out. She wants to update them. A registration fee of $7.50 per family will be charged to defray expenses of facility rent and other reunion costs. After the meal, a short program will recognize the oldest, youngest, those above 90, and those who traveled the farthest to the reunion. A memorial service will honor those kin who have passed since the last reunion. This reunion honors early settlers to the Choestoe District of Union County who settled there in the 1830's: John and Mary Combs Soutehr and Bluford Elisha, Jr. and Elizabeth Clark Dyer. Recent reunions have number well above 200, with the highest attendance being 264 in 2002. You are invited to attend if you have ties to any of the Dyers and Southers who migrated out of Wilkes County, NC and from Pendleton District, SC to upper Georgia in the 1830's.
Your e-mail mentioned the annual Deaver reunion in Blairsville celebrated in June of each year. That reunion was held this year on June 26 at Meek's Park about a mile west of Blairsville. That reunion is of the descendants of Solomon Alfred Deaver and his wife Callie Amanda. Solomon A. Deaver is the second child of Reuben Keith Deaver from his second marriage to Susannah Chapman. For the first time at this reunion there were attendees this year of some descendants of Reuben Keith Deaver's first marriage. Usually the descendants of his first marriage have their own reunion at the Georgia Mountain Experiment Station every year on the first Saturday of August. The Georgia Mountain Experiment Station is located on Hwy 19 & 129 about 3 miles south of the town of Blairsville, GA. This is merely for your information. SOLOMON HOWARD RICH =================================================== From: dboeh@comcast.net To: GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com Date: Tue, 6 Jul 2004 19:03:22 -0700 Subject: [GAUNION] Deaver Genealogy There is a lot of info on the 1811 Reubin Keith Deaver and family that can be found at RootsWeb/WorldConnect. All known children are given. And you can find the descendency of Mary Lou's brother, John, b. 1844. But I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the information you will find there. Example: Mary Lou is given as Mary Luarte b. 1841. My guess is that the birth dates of most of her and her sibs is derived from census records. My Deavers of interest are the children of Stanhope Deaver who was a son of John A., who was a son of Reubin Keith Deaver. One of Stanhope's children, John Dewey Deaver, b. 1901, married my great-aunt. There is also an annual Deaver reunion for this family that is held in Blairsville, GA. I think they just celebrated in June.
