    1. Looking For Poem
    2. Hi, I am looking for a copy of an old poem that was published in a Union Co. GA newpaper years ago, maybe in the 20's or 30's, maybe later than that, not sure. The name of it is, Sweet Summer Rain, and I don't know the author's name, but feel sure that it was a woman. I have parts of the poem, but would love to have all of it. Part of it is below. Any help appreciated with this... Thanks, Dreama Sweet Summer Rain Once upon a summer's eve long, long ago came a little fairy maid, eyes and cheeks aglow In her hands were violets blue raindrops clung like drops of dew on her cheeks of crimson hue. Sweet summer rain Never again on earth to hear Her sweet voice calling, "Mother dear", Sweet summer rain

    1. Fw: [GAUNION] Union Co. History???
    2. JEAN JONES: I waited around to see if someone answered you, but it is now in the late afternoon, so I decided that I would answer you the best I could. I do not live in Union County, GA now, but I grew up there. There is a great deal of history you can find on the web site for Union County at the following web site address: < www.rootsweb.com/~gaunion >. I would say that the migration was into Union County during the early 1800s. My people came to Union County from North Carolina between 1825 and 1834. However, after the Civil War (about 1864) people began to move out of Georgia into Texas. It was hard times after the Civil War and people were going west to get away from the "hard times." I expect the tax records would be located at the County Court House in Blairsville, GA (the County Seat). I hope you have success in your search. I have checked out as best I can several leads to counties in Georgia, This is the only one I have located that could very well be my connection. I received the census list listed below: from: Doyle Harper Union Co., Ga. 1850 Census 522 GARRETT William 34 NC Mary 37 NC Joseph 3 Elisha 1 Gone by 1860 ------------- William Garret 43, b NC, in Fannin Co., GA 1860 Census with Mary 48 NC; Joseph 13 GA; Elisah (sic) 11 GA; James 9 GA; Martha 7 GA; Mary 5 GA; Eliza 3 GA; & Louisa 2 GA. Several Daniel(s) families in Union Co 1860 census, but no Caroline. A Wm. Daniels 32 GA & wife Martha 33 GA had a dau. Alsey C. 9 GA, in 1860 Union Co. census. This family not in 1870 Union Co. census. Good luck, Doyle Harper ------------- The dates & names tie in with my Garretts really well. The names Elisha, Joseph, Mary & James. My Granddad's name was Elisha Joseph Garrett & he had siblings with the names Mary & James. The Asley C. (possibly C. for Caroline), her age would have put her about 19-20 years old when my great grandfather Benjamin Garrett was born. Also the Garrett family does not seem to be in Fannin Co., Georgia in 1870, when my great granddad was born in Arkansas. I realize that part of Union Co., Ga. in 1850 by 1860 had become a part of Fannin Co., Ga. so the families may very well have still been living where they were in the 1850s, only the name of the county where the lived had changed. I realize that part of Union Co., Ga. in 1850 by 1860 had become a part of Fannin Co., Ga. so the families may very well have still been living where they were in the 1850s, only the name of the county where the lived had changed. Realize that I have not proven that Asley is my Caroline, but it looks very possible. I am still looking for documentation that I can lay my hands on. -------------------------- 1880 Census Place: Flint, Benton, Arkansas Source: FHL Film 1254038 National Archives Film T9-0038 Page 323D Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace William GARRIET Self M M W 65 NC Occ: Farmer Fa: NC Mo: NC Mary GARRIET Wife F M W 67 NC Occ: House Keeping Fa: NC Mo: NC Martha GARRIET Dau F S W 26 GA Occ: House Work Fa: NC Mo: NC Mary GARRIET Dau F S W 24 GA Occ: House Work Fa: NC Mo: NC Eliza A. 3. I am finding more data on the genforum about your line if it is William Garrett who md. Betty TURNER the following is 2 years old, but quite interesting (to me): Michael, First let me say that I am searching Turner/Middleton/Headen [by many different spellings] of Fairfax/Loudoun Co, VA. I have a Jane Middleton died 1767 Loudoun Co, VA. I have no idea who her husband was. We descend thru her daughter, Hannah, that was the first wife of a George Turner. Hannah died in Virginia but the others came to Spartanburg Co, SC. In fact, George Turner's daughter, Betty, married a William Garrett.......On page 316 in Loudoun Co, VA Tithables 1758-1786 I find a Thos Owsley, William Owsley, Thos Owsley Jr, William Constable {O}and on the very same page a George Turner. I assume that this is my George Turner that married Hannah Middleton. If you know anything about the above I would be very grateful. Gratefully, Helen the OWSLEY are related to my GARRETTS directly and originally, this query was under the heading Garrett/Bramletts, and the BRAMLETTS are md. into my grandmother's family later in Texas. I already know the Union Co. SC are the same group. You may want to search the posts of Helen B. SMith, you can do that by clicking on her name on the query, then clicking to see all her posts, click the one's you want to view. there are three people discussing this Fannin/Union Co. family, they are Steven Garrett, Nina and & Lillian White posted by: Steven E. Garrett Date: June 03, 1998 at 21:10:05 of 6463 I am descended from Joseph Garrett and Sarah Stroud ....from North Carolina, but moved to Union County, GA in the early 1800's......their son John who .... born in 1818 and married Ester M. Long in 1850 in Union Co., GA. Their son, Isaac Newton (Newt) was my grandfather's father. .....married to Lula Augusta Wilson (His first wife was Minerva (Nurvie) Craig). Newt and Lula are buried in Euharlie Church cemetery in Bartow County. I am looking for any other descendants of Joseph and Sarah Stroud Garrett. Re: Garrett-Union,Fannin,Gilmer Co.GA Posted by: Nina Date: November 17, 1998 at 10:39:40 In Reply to: Garrett-Union,Fannin,Gilmer Co.GA by Steven E. Garrett of 6463 .......to find someone else doing research on this branch of the Garrett family. My line goes through the son James who was born in 1814 and married Susannah Mashburn in 1836. Their son James Henry was my great-grandfather. The information I have going back before Joseph and Sarah is limited........Joseph's father as William Garrett and that he married a Turner, ....... and from Lillian I Guess you and I are distant cousins.....information on Mary Ann Garrett who married William W. Brown father of Louisa Rebecca Brown who md. William Billy Cox they are my Great grandparents ...... I have a J Henry Garrett born 28 Jun 1814 his father Joseph Garrett about 1786. I have that Joseph Garretts wife is Sarah Stroud and her father Peter Stroud who md Margaret Curtis.. I have Susannah father as Elish J Mashburn and his James Mashburn and mother Dorothy Hampton Elisha wife Joicy Willas Would love to share information Lilly White I hope this all helps you, Debbie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roy & Linda Garrett" <lrgarrett@alltel.net> To: <GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 08, 2004 9:20 PM Subject: [GAUNION] Elisha Garrett /William Elisha Garrett > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Gayle Garrett > To: GARRETT-L@rootsweb.com > Sent: Saturday, August 07, 2004 6:16 PM > Subject: [GARRETT-L] Re: GARRETT ROLL CALL! - Elisha Garrett /William Elisha > Garrett > > > Looking for some information on my great great grandfather.
