    2. Don Deyton
    3. Donna. You may want to go to the Towns County Library, also. It has been a while since I looked at but they have some microfilm. Union County library has a genealogy section, but the last time I looked, it mostly had books. The Union County Historical Society in the Old Courthouse may have collected more genealogy information...it has been a while since I went there, also. Hope this helps some. 1. LATEST on Record Bill
    2. Debbie Woolf
    3. Senate Bill 2845 has passed the Senate without our suggested wording. One of the provisions that did pass reads as follows: "ISSUANCE TO FAMILY MEMBERS - Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary, in consultation with the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the States, shall establish minimum standards for issuance of a birth certificate to specific family members, their authorized representatives, and others who demonstrate that the certificate is needed for the protection of the requestor's personal or property rights." Assuming we were not successful at getting our language in the bill, it looks like our next shot is to get our language in the minimum standards, making it clear that the States are free to issue non-certified copies to the public. You are free to forward this to other interested parties as you see fit. David E. Rencher Chair, Record Preservation and Access Committee Federation of Genealogical Societies and the National Genelaogical Society

    2. Susan Lane
    3. My Knight family lived a short time in Union County, GA, having moved there from Union County, SC in 1844. Two sons married thwere in 1847 so I know they were there at least three years. they then moved on to Mississippi. Can anyone tell me if deed books are available for 1844-1847. I was in the court house of Union county in 2000 and managed to find some marriage records but the records were not being kept very well, so I wonder if anything is available now for research. I will greatly appreciate any help with information about research availability. Susan Lane

Let everyone know about it. I saw it mentioned on TV as well. If we don't let them know it needs changing somehow we may be cutting our own throats. Sharon: ===================================================== SHARON: May I forward this to the lists I host? Is it okay to forward it to other lists? or people we know? Thanks, Debbie ===================================================== From: <sharonmc2002@aol.com> To: <SE-TN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 08, 2004 2:30 AM Subject: [SE-TN] New Bill dealing with records New Bill Will Close Records to Genealogists HR10, which was mentioned in the 13 October issue of RootsWeb Review, has passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives and is now part of S.2845. The amendments suggested by David Rencher in his letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman J. Dennis Hastert, were NOT incorporated into this legislation. Thus, the terms of HR10 will now be considered by the Senate, as part of S.2845. If S.2845 becomes law, as now written, family historians will face some real challenges in attempts to obtain birth records, even on long- deceased individuals. Specifically, what genealogists need to do is suggest to their lawmakers the addition of Sec. 3061(b)(1)(A)(iii) that would read: "who is alive on the date that access to their birth certificate is requested." This addition would clarify that the legislation (soon to be law) applies ONLY to birth certificates of CURRENTLY LIVING PERSONS. If you do not know your U.S. Senator's e-mail address, you can find it at http://www.senate.gov/ This bill can be found online at http://thomas.loc.gov/ Put in S.2845 (in the bill number window) and then select item No.3; and go to Subtitle B--Identity Management Security; Chapter 2-- Improved Security for Birth Certificates. ==== GAUNION Mailing List ==== --- Author Retains Copyright --- -- Copyright 2004 Author -- All Rights Reserved Post to List: GAUNION-L@rootsweb.com http://www.selfroots.com Unsubscribe request To: GAUNION-L-request@rootsweb.com ARCHIVES: http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl ============================== View and search Historical Newspapers. 3. I have at least 5 Porter Owenby's in my database, but none of them married a Nicholson, that I am aware of. Do you have any further info?
