CAT, What is required to finish the 1910 Census? Would like to help if able. Michelle [email protected] wrote: > Hi Everyone....!!!! Here's a quick update on where we are with our county's census info: 1. As of today, we now have an index to the 1860 census. 2. I will be retrieving the microfilm printouts from her in the next 2 weeks and I'll see if I can finish it over the summer. After I finish it, I'll do an index for it as well. 3. Sharon Gardner is continuing to provide us with 'complete' data for the 1920 census; but we still have partial info for all districts thanks to Rosemary Harbin. Dear CAT, I want to thank you and all the other people that worked on the censuses. My Mother had a stroke after by-pass surgery. A month before she died my father had a stroke. I was with my Mother when she died. When I left her, I went straight to the Rehab and started taking care of my Father. I didn't have any real time to grieve for my Mother. I was so busy with my Father. One day I found the Union County site and I started looking for relatives. And to my surprise I found a lot of them. But what brought me real peace was when I found my Mother in the 1920 Census. She was seven months old. I sent the site to all of my family. It was very healing. Thank you all very much. Hi-- I was sent this ROGERS line by a researcher who queried on Caroline Rogers: William Cockram (b: Abt. 1769 in NC d: April 26, 1841 in Avery's Creek, Buncombe Co., NC) had a daughter: Clarissa Cockram b: Abt. 1793 in NC .....+ROBERT ROGERS b: Abt. 1792 in Tenn. CHILDREN: Miranda Rogers b: Abt. 1823 Caroline Rogers b: Abt. 1825 in NC ..... +W. S. Murray b: Abt. 1820** in NC Salina Rogers b: Abt. 1830 in NC ..... +Calton Willson b: Abt. 1827 in NC Thomas Rogers b: Abt. 1833 Hamilton Rogers b: Abt. 1836 ..... +Elizabeth Unknown b: Abt. 1785 in NC d: Aft. 1850 in Avery's Creek, Buncombe Co., NC W.S. and Caroline (Rogers) Murray ended up in Union County, Georgia. Maybe some of Caroline's siblings and cousins did, too. I was disappointed not to find your Sara Jane Rogers among Robert Rogers' children. I'm having such difficulty with my Union County line. I was sent the data above by another researcher with whom I've lost contact. From various posts, I begin to get a picture of a lot of people who left Buncombe Co., NC and settled in Union County, Georgia, as Cherokee land became available (possibly even before the removal). Some of these NC families remained in Union and Fannin Co. (Fannin formed in 1854 from a segment of Union.) However, some travelled on to Oklahoma when land became available there. This is making research difficult, as I see by other queries on Union County lines of research. If you find that your Rogers is related to Robert, please let me know. I'm going to save your Sara Jane Rogers data just in case I find a link as I go on. Thanks, D.K.P. MURRAY (b.9 Jan. 1870-GA; d.6 June 1946-OK) married Ninnie SNYDER. William apparently had a half-brother, "Gains," whose son, Jim MURRAY went to Oklahoma and lived with Will and Ninnie, then returned to Georgia. William E. MURRAY is the son of W.S. MURRAY married (2) Nancy PETTY (They resided in Fannin Co., Ga). Gains MURRAY (being Will's half-brother) may be the son of W.S. MURRAY married (1) Caroline ROGERS, whose family appears in the 1850 Union Co., Ga. census, but does not list a son by the name of Gains. Gains may be another given name for one of the sons listed. Would like to hear from anyone researching Gains Murray and his son, Jim. There may also be a Milton Murray, b. abt. 1847, connected with this family. ______________________ Ref. 1850 Union Co., Ga. census: W.S. Posted on: Union Co. GA Query Forum Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Union?read=554 Surname: ROGERS, MURRAY, SNYDER, PETTY ------------------------- I had contacted you previously about W.S. MURRAY and my speculations as to him being the same individual as my gg-grandfather Scott. I have since received all kinds of clues that support that fact--but now I have a new puzzle. Among the things I received is a copy of a photo of a "Jim Murray," son of "Gains Murray" who is "Wills half brother." I know that the Will they refer to would be William E. Murray (married Ninnie SNYDER). Will is W.S. Murray's son by his 2nd marriage to Nancy C. PETTY. According to the inscription, this Gains "come to Ok & lived with Will & Ninnie & worked in a cafe for about 7 months then went back to Ga." Only trouble is, there's no "Gains" Murray listed in the census of W.S. and Caroline (ROGERS) MURRAY's family. Do you have a Jim Murray, son of Gains Murray in any of your Rogers-Murray research?
Thanks--I don't know whether she is related, but I like to keep these tidbits in my genealogy folder for reference in case it does turn out to be a relation. Yes, I have the Federal Pension records. My family had at least 6 members who served in the Union Army. They also were from Union county. We believe that most of them were first conscsripted into the Georgia units, but then escaped to join Union forces. They did move to Polk Co at some time either during or after the war. They were members of the 5thTn MI Co C and some in a Kentucky unit. GoVan "Van"Stewart was a Capt. James Arch Stewart who went by Arch. Hi Gary, I don't know if this will help or not but I thought I'd bring it up just in case you need some leads on the McBEEs. John AKINS, Sr. who d. 1863 Union Co., GA was a grandchild of Lewis AKINS who died 1791 in Laurens Co., SC. Several of Lewis' sons served in the Rev. War, one of them was John AKINS' father, Ezekiel AKINS b. 1760. I'm not looking directly at my AKINS Rev. War resources, but several of Lewis' sons served under with Col. Varney McBEE. I believe it was this same McBEE that witnessed several documents with or for Lewis AKINS in Laurens Co., SC. I understand they were friends and neighbors. So, I have wondered if the Union Co., GA McBEEs came from Laurens Co. Just a wee thought..... Happy Hunting, CAT Gary Pinson wrote: > I'm in California, so not a local. Hi-- Could someone check for land deeded to or from the following persons in Union Couny? Winfield Scott MURRAY (b.1820; d.1877) or Caroline (ROGERS) MURRAY (his 1st wife). They were already residing in Union County in 1850. ____________ I am only asking for a look-up on these two individuals (not extracts of all Murrays), but variations on the husband's name are many: Winfield S. Mury, W.S. Murray, and Scott Murray. I have also seen his surname indexed as "Murry." Thanks, D.K.P. [email protected]
This link lists various civil war regiments with e-mail addresses of people who are researching various companies in those regiments and will do look ups: http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/warweb.html#rosters . I'd suggest you visit the county site(s) where your ancestors lived and see what information is there, then cruise the web looking for more info.
