    3. Jerry What is the evidence that Hannah Nicholson Morgan is the daughter of Alfred and Mary Chastain Nicholson. I believe you're probably right, but I'd like to nail it down. I've seen there 13 children (including a Hannah) listed, but I only know of evidence for the last 5 or 6. Also, the listing supplied me was dubious because the birthdates were all listed "about", two years apart (starting about 1820), and in BLAIRSVILLE,UNION COUNTY,GEORGIA. That's doubtful since Alfred was listed in the Hall County census in 1830. By the way, there is another Morgan/Nicholson marriage in the area. John Benton Morgan (1818-1876) and Mary Ann Nicholson (1806-8?-) were married in Pickens County, South Carolina in 1837. Shortly after their marriage they moved to DeKalb Alabama where two sons of William (1765?-1820) Nicholson and James Nicholson (1793-?), son of John (1763-1858) Nicholson lived. 1. Re: [GAUNION] Northern Georgia Ancestors
    2. David, I have no idea if our families connect, but i am also chasing some Smith's from the Western NC areas. I will try to type what I know: My great grandmother was Sarah "Charlsey" (nee Taylor) who married Alford Graham Feb 12, 1896 in Monroe CO TN (this is just over the line of NC). Sarah's father was Baldwin/Bolden Harold Taylor who married a daughter of a woman who was known as "Aunt Sally Link/Smith or Granny Link/Smith. Her real name being Sarah (Smith-first husband) Lingenfelt/Lingerfelt (second husband)". She was born Dec 10, 1802. I can't quite make out her father's name on the death certificate. The last name looks like Nickerson or perhaps it starts with a "P". I can't tell. There is a write up of Aunt Sally Links obituary from the Knoxville McGee Library before she died around 1920 stating that she had lived to be 120 years old. She was first married to a Smith and lived around the Hanging Dog community in Cherokee County NC. She had by her first husband. Her daughter Margaret Smith was a registered midwife. She had traveled as far as Marion Ohio to deliver babies. She was 107 at the time of the article. The only other daughter listed was Catherine I think was my great grandmother Sarah's mother. Catherine died when Sarah was about 5 years old. The other names listed as her children are: Samuel, Roe, Frank, Marion and Henry. Granny LInk lived with her son Frank in Polk Co TN in some of her later years. Before that time she lived in Cherokee NC. In one census that I can't find at the moment....I believe it is Cherokee county, Samuel (grandson) is living with Margaret and is listed as an Indian. I have wondered if the Henry is the father of the Nimrod Jarrett SMith who was one of the Chiefs of the Cherokee. This email sounds confusing even to me...I'm sorry...but I noticed the similarities of the SMith, Henry Samuel and Sarah and also the CHerokee tie. Much of my other family from this same area go back to Union Co, so it wouldn't surprise me if this one did too.

    2. Have you been to the libaray at Murphy NC? The library has a genealogy room. There are a few roads in Cherokee County (just over the state line from GA and not far from Ivy Log) that have the name Henson. These roads are between Blairsville and Murphy on Highway 19. To give you a little background: I am a descendant of a family whom I have tracked to northern Georgia (Union County and others). There was a James Hayes Blair who married Sarah Unknown, she was Cherokee Indian. Their children were George Blair, Jennie Blair (Sweetwater) and Margaret Blair (Henson). These children were relocated to Oklahoma during the Trail of Tears. Sarah Unknown then married a man who took the name of John Smith. Their children were Sarah Lucy Smith (Timpson), Samuel Smith, Henry Smith, Esther Smith (McLeymore) and William Smith. These children remained in the East during the Trail of Tears and migrated north into North Carolina. I am at the proverbial brick wall with the parents, birthdate, birth location, etc. of James Hayes Blair, Sarah Unknown, and John Smith. I have narrowed their births down to the 1770's by their children,s ages. As you noticed Margaret Blair married a Henson. His name was William Richard Henson born about 1795. I think his parents were William Henson and Pollie Unknown. Therefore: I am very much interested in the Hensons & Blairs who lived & died in the Northern Georgia area. If anyone knows of any type of research materials which would help me could you please let me know. I have other family lines which migrated through Georga which was a little more documented than this line. I live on the Cherokee reservation in North Carolina and would be willing to exchange information with anyone who could help me. ==== GAUNION Mailing List ==== Reminder: County Coordinators of the USGenWeb Project DO NOT perform research for visitors. 3. Dan, Yes, he was the son of Henderson Poston. According to the Soundex he was the head of the household. His wife, three children, and sister-in-law were in the household. The census is of importance to me because: 1. value of property and personal estates. 2. were the children in school. 3. who were his neighbors, etc., etc. William Henderson apparently died about the turn of the century. I have a photocopy of a church list that lists him as being deceased. The church was formed in 1897. His oldest son and his mother moved to Arkansas in 1902. William Henderson's descendents are spread throughout Ok., Ar., and Tx. I have been in contact with a lot of them over the years. My request for census info. was merely to fill in some missing information. I am descended from Lorenzo Byrd Poston, son of Henderson, and brother of William Henderson. -----Original Message----- From: Daniel Pierce [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, July 15, 2000 1:49 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GAUNION] 1880, William Poston Larry, I don't have access to the 1880 census, but is your William the one born in 1850, son of Henderson Poston shown on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses? Washington is buried at Confidence Methodist Church in Union County; Louisa went to Cleveland, TN to live out her life with her daughter MAE BELLE after Wash died and is buried there in the "big cemetery" according to relatives. In the transcription of the census, on the internet (Genforum), William is not listed. Would someone that has access to the census please check? Thanks in advance. Larry Poston Easley, SC

    3. Posted on: Union Co. GA Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Union?read=583 Surname: FAIR, LOVING, WHITE ------------------------- Barbara, Regret that I cannot make a connection with you. I saw the Matilda Loving name in a Union County, GA response a couple of months back and went fishing on it only to find that she was not the daughter, Matilda, of William Loving and wife Elizabeth Fair of Burke County, NC and later Cherokee County, NC. The proximity of Union and Cherokee raised my hope but it was reportedly not the same. Your Loving surname may be connected but I cannot make the tie at this point. What I'm really after is to prove that my G/G GF, ARCHIBALD FAIR (also from Burke and Cherokee),was the nephew of the above Elizabeth Fair Loving. Looking for leads but none have arrived. Appreciate the response.

    3. Lisa, I don't have him listed yet but I am still stuck in 1840 in Cherokee Cty NC with my husband's Family. A Joshua C Gibbs born in 1822 in NC...then brick wall. Sorry. Is my J C Gibbs who married Martha ? abt 1837 on your family list? 3. Jerry Taylor, Thank you so much for checking. I have run out of ideas where to look for her or her two daughters. This was my only logical link left.
