Edie: I don't have any information for you, but I am also looking for information on a John Gilbert, married to Rhoda with a step-son named Andrew J. Miller. John Gilbert was 69 in the 1880 Union County Census, Rhoda was 48, and Andrew was 20. Andrew Miller is my great-grandfather and I could find no reference to him anywhere, until I found this census entry. I just started looking in on the Gilberts, and I will sure let you know if I find anything. Please let me know if you find anything that would help me. Looking for parents or siblings of Elizabeth Logan that married Thomas Crow in Union Co Ga in 1837. Any help appreciated. Doris
In reading and researching some information on our families, I came across a couple of interesting statements that I really would like to pursue further. One is that slavery WAS the main issue for Georgia entering the Civil War. The second statement was that only 40% of the slaves in Georgia were negroes, the rest were whites, mixed blood indians and Cherokees left behind after the removal. Any Civil War buffs out there? Hi All, Union Co., GAGenWeb has 2 new pages: 1. How to search the Union Co. website & get it ALL http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaunion/search.html contains 9 Steps of how and where to go to be sure your on-line research covers all the bases to find your Union Co., GA folks. Our new county search engine box was moved to this page today as well as our search box for our email list. I think this will help our new & old-timer researchers alike. 2 Union Co., GA Research FAQ's: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaunion/FAQs.html is Step # 8 and starts out with 10 of the most common questions I have answered repeatedly over the past few years: 1. -- I think my ancestor was in Union Co., GA in 1825, why can't I find information about him at the website? 2. -- I thought I posted a query about Union Co., GA on the query board; but it seems to have disappeared. Where did it go? 3. -- I want to register the surnames I am researching. Where do I go to this? 4.-- I found a query that had the surname SMITH in the surname list; but when I read the query, there was no mention of any SMITH. Why? 5. -- I found an obit on the Obit Board about my ancestor and I submitted a response to it last week. Now it's gone. Where did it go? 6. -- I had to change my email address. How do I get my email addy changed in all my old queries? 7.-- I found my SMITH ancestor on a Union Co., GA census but it was shown as SMYTHE. Who do I contact to see that it is changed to SMITH? 8.-- I want to join the Union Co., GA email list. Can you tell me more about it? 9. -- I found my ancestor on the 1860 census with an age of 3/12. How do I determine the month? 10. --I'm new to genealogy and so lost. Where can I go to read 'how to get started'?? Hope this helps everyone.... Happy Hunting, CAT Union Co. Hello Fellow Rooters and CCs: Union Co., GAGenWeb now has a search engine so you can search the entire website in just one click!!! Hope this helps....as our website has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years thanks to our many volunteers. This search engine will: 1. search only what is keyed into the box...so you will need to do separate searches for the various spellings of your surname until I can build the 'similar words' page at the search engine's website. 2. search only the pages that reside at our rootsweb website, i.e. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaunion/ so, you'll need to search our email list, archives, queries, and genconnect boards separately. It will not include some of the civil war rosters as they reside on other folks' websites. 3. automatically update only once a week; but I'll try to remember to re-index our search engine when I load a 'new' webpage... To my fellow CCs...as you know RootsWeb's search engine requests are on hold....so if you want a search engine for your county website, you'll need to find one elsewhere. Union Co. is using: http://mysearch.looksmart.com/ It's pretty easy to set up and doesn't take very long to do.... and this was my first stab at this kinda of stuff. I have also spoken with Pam Reid who maintains the county coordinator volunteer webpages at our USGenWeb site about adding a section on search engines to help all of CCs out there. She's working on it now....maybe it would be a good idea for the GAGenWeb Council to add something to the GA CC's guidelines...just a thought.. HAPPY HUNTING... We often hear the question concerning the frigid poses of the photography of the 18th and 19th century. Here is website that tells it all. Its interesting to know that our ancestors had a metal clamp behind their necks held their heads still to prevent the picture from blurring. They were told to be still and blink as little as possible. This explains why many of these early photographs feature our ancestors with fixed, blank stares, stiff positions and few smiles. Exposure time was about a minute, as compared to the fraction of a second modern cameras require. For more information http://www.genealogy.org/~ajmorris/photo/phot.htm Leslie
Hi Cousins I need help on I find in the 1850 Union County Census Elisha Garrett age 1, who I have reason to believe was my great great grandfather. I will list what I found below: 1850 CENSUS OF UNION COUNTY, GEORGIA Annotated Version as of Fall, 1999 File contributed for use in USGen Web Digital Library by: Keith Townson and annotated by Cat Tindell, Fall of 1999 522 Garrett William 34 NC Mary 37 NC Joseph 3 Elisha 1 Gone by 1860 I need to know where the members of this family were from 1850- 1870s. If I can find this out it can help prove that Elisha is or is not my great great grandfather. All I have is a death certificate of my great grandfather Benjamin Franklin Garrett b: 1870 Benton Co., Arkansas. stating that Ben's parents were Elisha Garrett & Caroline Daniels both b: in Georgia. The death certificate was filled out by my grandfather Elisha Joseph Garrett. My grandfather's name was Elisha Joseph Garrett & he was the oldest of 12 children of Benjamin & Susan (Lewis) Garrett 10 still living at that time. My granddad's name being Elisha Joseph & noticing the names of William's sons in the 1850 census as Elisha & Joseph I am encouraged. Also location & date both Caroline Daniels b: 1842 & Elisha Garrett b: 1849 are both workable for the date of Benjamin's birth b: 1870. I also would like to find where Elisha & Caroline were married & when. Where Caroline was b: & where her family lived from 1836-1870s. Caroline Daniels: I find in the information below, who I have reason to believe was my great great grandmother. I will list what I found below: Tattnall County, Georgia Marriage Records 1805-1845 Indexed By Groom Groom Bride Date of Marriage DANIEL, Zachariah DUBERLY, Ally 09/16/1836 Alley Dubberly b:1809 SC, d:1880 Ga. M: Zachariah Daniels b; 22 Dec 1814 d: 23 Sept. 1874 Ga. Their issue: Mary b: 1837 ,M:15 Sept. 1859 Ashford Yeomans Aaron b: 1839, M: Ruth Bower M2? Elender b: 1840 Caroline b: 1842 Barbary b: 1843 M: John Yeomans Cosine Marshell b: 1845 M: Manning Peterson Salome b: 1847 Jane b: 1849, never married Moses, b:1851, M: 19 Dec 1880 Eliza Carver Harper Marjory b: 1854, M: R. A. Smith Solomon, b:1869, never married I see Caroline's parents were married in Tattnall Co.., Ga. I am trying to establish where Caroline was born, possibly Tattnall Co., Ga. I would appreciate any information on the Garrett & Daniel families listed above. Also where Zachariah Daniels was born. Thank You Gayle M. Garrett <[email protected]>

This Leathy ROBERTS was...Alethia Cline STANDRIDGE b. 1824 Macon Co., NC, dtr/o John Bailus STANDRIDGE, Sr. of Cherokee Co., NC. I have the Standridges going way back...including Old Pendleton Dist., SC. Alethia "Leathy" married abt 1840, probably right after the 1840 census, to Elisha/Elijah/Eli/Elias ROBERTS b. 1810 SC. He fits in as a son of William ROBERTS & Ellender 'Nellie' MURRAY-ROBERTS who were in Union Co., GA by 1834 census. It appears that Wm. & Nellie were in SC until abt 1812 and then headed to TN in area now known as Sevier Co., TN before winding up in Union Co. GA. So far, no one is including my Elisha as a son of William & Nellie's because I believe he is hiding in the Richard ROBERTS household in 1840 Union Co., GA. Richard didn't come with his father William to Union Co. by 1834. He, nor did any of his older children....they didn't arrive in Union Co. until 1835-1840. I understand that Richard ROBERTS was in Carroll Co., TN by 1850. Richard's wife was Rachel HAYES/HAYNES...& they married abt 1825 in TN.
