Don't know if this will help or not, but my 3G grandfather was also in 5th TN Mtd. If you live close enough to visit Murphy in Cherokee County, NC, visit the museum there and ask to look at Mr. Bob BARKER'S papers. They are on microfilm. He was a well-known historian and the research he did for his last book [which wasn't published] were donated to the museum when he died and they contain a lot on the members of the 5th TN Mtd. Posted on: Union Co. GA Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Union/706 Surname: McCLURE, HOOPER, NELSON ------------------------- Jerry and Nanette, I listed all those McCLURE & HOOPERs living close to each other in the 1850 Union co.Ga. Census but lost it when looking for this Web site for you. Check out these wonderful sites for several years Census records. Also Nanette I have suspected for a long time Elisha Hedden NELSON was related to Elisha HEDDEN that lived near them at one time but can't find that record right now. I suspect Elisha's father was Zenobia NELSON listed in 1850 Census of Union co. and listed as Sibu NELSON in 1860 Towns co.Ga. I can find only his wife Martha after that. I have no other proof. Just can't find another Elisha Nelson b. 1844. As you can see from 1850 Census Union co. William McClure's wife is listed as Melly age 29, 1 yr younger than him. In 1860 Towns co.Ga. William's wife is listed as Elinder age 35 (4 yrs younger than he). Here are those Web sites... http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaunion/census/census.html check out "all districts" - expanded version http://census-online.com/links/index.html http://www.doitnow.com/~moravia/census.html Sarah

Posted on: Union Co. GA Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Union/702 Surname: McCLURE, HOOPER, NELSON ------------------------- By 1890 Elisha Hedden NELSON's family had left Union co. and Towns co. Ga. and were in Ogreeta and Beaver Dam in Cherokee co., NC. G.W.McClure age 33 and W.S.McClure age 24 were witnesses for Elisha'S pension papers. William McClure would have been about 70 if he were still alive. Ellender HOOPER McCLURE and he were listed in Elisha's pension papers. That is the only time I have seen her maiden name. I just found 1880 Census Beaver Dam Township, Cherokee co., NC # 37 McClure,William age 59 NC NC NC/ ..............Ellender age 53 NC NC NC/ ...............Henry P---- 16 NC NC NC/ .................William S 14 NC NC NC/ ..................Joseph V 12 NC NC NC So I suppose it was this William S. who signed as witness to the pension papers of Elisha H. Nelson, his sister's husband, in 1891. There were lots of children in this family. Elizabeth Jane was 2 yrs old in 1850 Census of Union co. Ga. In 1860 she is 12 and called Elizabeth. However looks like her mother's name was Melly age 29 in 1850. There were HOOPER's 2 doors down from them. Maybe William re-married. The age of William's wife in 1850 is 1 yr younger than he. In 1860 wife is 6 yrs younger. Sarah

Several of Rev. Sol. Absalom Hooper's children moved here. She might possibly fit in somewhere??? From studying the census, I have determined you McClures and Nelsons lived in the vicinity of Hog Creek/Sunnyside community. There is a Nelson Gap over there somewhere. Any further info would help me in making a determination. Where are you McClures after 1860? I see the Nelsons were here through 1880. What happened to them? Do you know definitely any other McClure relatives and/or Hooper relatives? That would help me in connecting to the correct family.

Hello fellow listers... This is just a reminder. If you are going away for the holidays for more than just a few days, you probably should consider temporarily unsubbing from the email lists that you subscribe to. Here's why... Depending on how many lists you are a subscriber and the volume of mail each list generates daily, combined with non-list mail you receive, you may exceed the amount of space [usually only 2 meg] that your email provider allows you in which to accumulate email until your next access [download]. Being away just a few days with no email access can cause your mailbox to become full. It makes no difference whether you are subscribed to the list mode or the digest mode. All email sent to you from then on will bounce and you may not receive that very important email you were looking for from someone else. Once your email box is full, mail to your address from email lists will also begin to bounce. After several bounces, the system will automatically unsub you. In the meantime, the list owner's mailbox is clogged with these bounced/unsub notifications that are automatically sent. Your listowner may also be away for the holidays and can't access their email...and these bounced notices taking up their email webspace may cause your listowner not receive all their important email. SO....to help everyone & stop the automatic domino effect of lost email, please remember to unsub from your email lists before you leave!!!! How to unsubscribe from a list: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/questions.html#sub To learn what lists you are on: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ THANK YOU!!!! Linda, Thank you for your kind words. Hosting our Union [and Fannin] Co., GAGenWeb sites is a labor of love. As most of you know, my Mama, now 82, whose ancestors are all in Union/Fannin Cos., is in final stages of Alzheimers. She loved working on her family history. I started to continue her work for her about 9 years ago. Of course, got hooked rather quickly and now completely obsessed. <BG> It's a way I can be close to her and at the same time show her my deepest respect. For Mama's story, visit: <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~catinjax/Mama/> but have a box of kleenex handy... After Mama has passed on, I'll be relocating to Fannin Co. to be near family and friends. Earlier this year, I purchased some land outside of McCaysville to eventually build a 'permanent' vacation home. Once I'm up there, my personal goal is to have everything that was ever recorded in the public records in both Union and Fannin Cos. to be on-line and work in the community to preserve our shared history. In the meantime, I visit 3 or 4 times a year and try to gather what I can to help us. Again, I am just an administrator of the GAGenWeb Project. It is the contributions by others that truly make our Union Co. website what it is!!!!! Thank you to everyone!!! Hello, Union County Listmates, Having never been a subscriber to the Union County List, I had missed all your messages of thanks for transcribing the UC court minutes and The Blairsville Herald, as well as Carol Ann's public posts of praise, except for forwards from subscribing cousins. Last night, Cousin Pat, one of three wonderful and wacky UC Smith-researching cousins, went through your 'thank-you' posts and forwarded each one to me individually, and I was overwhelmed by your response. Today I have subscribed to the List, principally to acknowledge the many posts expressing gratitude.
