GA Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Union/762 Surname: FAIR, WHITE ------------------------- I will scan and send the photo to you but it is NOT identified as WILLIAM WHITE and wife RACHEL BRACKETT. I do have a photo of their daughter SARAH WHITE and her husband CHARLES FAIR (my great grandparents) and 10 of their 12 children (all identified) taken about 1880 in Union County, GA. I also have an individual picture of the couple in older age and would be happy to mail you a copy if you like.
Trying to find out information on Andrew Y. BEAVER and Mary WHITMORE. I belive they lived at least part of their lives in Union County. Mary was born 13 Aug 1869 in GA and died 29 Sep 1936. Andrew was born 12 June 1859 in GA and died 1 June 1949. Both are buried at Notla Baptist Church in Cherokee County, North Carolina. My father grew up calling them Uncle Doc and Aunt Mary, even though they weren't aunt and uncle to him. I would like to find out who Andrew's parents were so I can determine how they were related to him. Also interested in any information on their children. Debbie, I'm not sure if we connect or not because I really don't have my Whitmore's back any farther than George M. Whitmore (1837-1897) who married Sarah Hood (1837-1914). Sorry. Paula
Posted on: Union Co. GA Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Union/760 Surname: FAIR, WHITE ------------------------- I have in my possession an unknown photo taken from the home of Charles Fair and Sarah White circa 1915 in the LYC District of Union County, GA. In that the photo does not match any of their 12 children and their spouses, it is believed that it might be of William White and Rachel Brackett whose daughter, Sarah, married Charles Fair in February 1866. If anyone on this site has a photo of either William or Rachel (adults) I would appreciate a comparison. I can scan the photo and send it. The photo appears to be a couple in their late 40s/early 50s.
there are two books which may help you, one is by Sharon Dolainte (Dolante?) and it's called something like "Early MD and VA Colonists Families". I'll have to look it up EXACTLY, because that is from memory. It's very good, includes sources but it's also limited and so pricey. the other book I feel real stupid about, I found on my one visit to SLC FHC. I had the GARRETTs, the YOUNGs, DILLARDS in it. Whitmore, my line, md. into it and there is a few other connections so it has some spotty data on them. Hope this is of some help and let me know if you do find something further. Debbi, it was interesting to see your census' listed and being so many Thomas'. This doesn't have anything to do with anything I suppose but it is a question I need to ask and hope someone has an answer for me and maybe you. I have been searching my wife's line, William Lewis, sr., Major, who settled in White co. Tn abt. 1800, after leaving SC. His wife was Mary John, both having lived in Leesburg, Loudoun, Va. My point is in searching for Mary John I was hoping to find something. Someone once told me that I may be searching backwards(?), yep. They said that when the first generation of Welch that came to this country would reverse their names, ie. Thomas John to John Thomas, then the next generation would turn it back to the original. Has anyone ever heard of this????????? Need to know. Thanks, Cecil Kendall
YIKES! I don't know and I have some WELSH lines! <G> I hope someone else will have your answer. I just hate when they do name changes, don't you? <G> I have one Scandinavian line (or is it Swedish?) who changes it from the father's first name to "Son" for a son, and "Dotter" for a girl, so the last name of John SMITHSON's children would be Johnson for the boys and Johndotter for the girls! geee whiz! some say it's quite easy to research, but you would have to take the last name and look at all JOHNs in the area for possible father, right? I am leaving that be for now! <G> I made up the John SMITH, the names are really more like Jones (fill in the last name) and his kids would be Jonason and Jonadotter. Later they complicated it more by taking the Anglo names Jones, and in some cases Johnson. Aghhh. good luck on your question. I recently abstracopied ted some info. to send my cousin, in an attempt to pin down the possible THOMAS or THOMPSON men who may be related to me, looking for a Burke, Bunc., Linc. Co. NC connection (maybe flawed thinking). Wondering if any of you can identify these men, where they came from and/or who their families were. EVen though the name THOMAS is often very 'separate' from THOMPSON in the norm, I notice from census to census GREAT variation in this region on the same names. I've seen Hiram as Harim and once as Harm. This is a 1st name in our family, and I wonder about the connection here to the line using it. Is anyone related or have data? In 1834 there was a special state census done and I do not find James LONG it's online if anyone wants to check for THOMAS and THOMPSON 1840 Union co. GA index Benjamin F. Debbie, Please tell me who your Whitmore connection is. Paula
My line is Hosea brother of William H The Hood and Bruce site at Union County Rootsweb has a newer address. It didn't bounce but I didn't receive a response from it either. If you receive a copy of the Thomas information, I would be interested. There would be Davenport information that I would like also. Whitmore is not in my direct line but definitely there are connections. Anne
