There is quite a group of us on a quest for the origins of our ancestor Jeremiah Cloud, whose 1861 TX obituary said that he was born in Twiggs County GA (quite possibly on land that was Indian territory at the time and later was included in Wilkinson County, then Twiggs County, and then Bibb County). Thus, we are quite interested in the history of that region and of other people who were there in that era. Jeremiah Cloud said that he was born in Georgia in Twiggs County in 1784. Although Twiggs County was not formed until 1809, the land that became Twiggs County was certainly there in 1784 and people were residing there. Jeremiah did not depart Georgia for Alabama until well after 1809. There were further changes in county lines, and one family researcher has said that land being occupied by Jeremiah's family was part of what was carved out of Twiggs County in 1833 to expand Bibb County. This could have been true without Jeremiah ever knowing (or caring) about it. (We observe that in our own time we refer to places by names in use at the time the places last came to our attention, not necessarily the correct name at the time of a particular event being discussed or the correct name at the time of the discussion.)
