Ryle was born in Wilkinson county, Ga., in 1833. She was the daughter of William J. Ryle, Sr., and Frances (Jones) Ryle. Patience married Edward C. Epps, born in Twiggs County, Ga., in 1828. Their children were Mahala (24 Jun 1851-21 Jun 1930), Laura W. (1856- ), Dolly (c. 1857- ), Arabelle Victoria (c.1859-8 Sep 1933), and Jefferson Davis (18 Apr 1861-20 Jun 1937). Edward was killed in the Civil War on 1 Jul 1862, leaving Patience a widow with a lot of young children. The federal census of 1870 shows her living in Wilkinson County as head of household under the name Patience Epps. Living with her are several of her children and a 2-year-old boy named Robert E. Epps. One of the federal censuses shows Patience as being illiterate. That's all I have on her. If anyone has further information on Patience or Robert E. Epps (my grandfather), please let me know.
