Here's a great newspaper clipping about the sale of property of Frances Hugh (of Emanuel County) deceased. Land was in Twiggs....formerly Wilkinson. Does this help anyone? I'd love to be able to add some notes to this file. Does this refer to Marion (a community in Twiggs Co) or to Marion County? Cecil A. Fountain ceglen@earthlink.net Georgia Journal March 7, 1820 AGREEABLE to an order of the honorable the court of ordinary of Emanuel county, will be sold on the first Tuesday in May next, at the court house in said county, 862½ acres of land, lying on the Ogeechee river in said county, apart of which is excellent swamp-and at Marion, Twiggs county, will be sold on the first Tuesday in June next, one tract of land containing 202½ acres, known by No. 156, in the 26th district of formerly Wilkinson now Twiggs county being the real estate of Frances Hugh, deceased--sold for the benefit of the heirs of said deceased. Thanks for the great posting! I'm always excited about seeing any historical information regarding events in the early 1800's since so little is available. My ancestors (John and Gideon Allen) lived in Twiggs and came to the county about that time. They acquired property somehow in "District 326" according to the 1840 census records.
