    3. Thomas Simmons Chappell ( b. June 24, 1801, Hancock Co., GA; d. July 19, 1861, Twiggs) was married to Ruth Nelson (b. 1802, d. May 24, 1874, Twiggs) daughter of Alexander Nelson and Sarah Collins. Thomas S. Chappell was son of Thomas Chappell and Lavinia Cox Wheelus. Thomas S. Chappell served as deacon (1842) and later as pastor of Stone Creek Baptist Church. The Chappell family came into Georgia after the Am. Rev. when Thomas S. Chappell's grandfather John Chappell was granted land in Wilkes Co.
