Dear list subscribers; I am starting a new database and will work on getting this online as soon as possible, but it can only be successful with your help. Since the courthouse burned in 1901, there are no marriage records for Twiggs County before that time. I am working on re-creating these marriages. I have started looking through old newspapers and books to get this database started. Gaila has sent me some marriages off of Ancestry.com and that is what has given me the idea to do this. I know that in some cases we will not be able to know the exact date the marriage took place. (But the month or just the year will be better than nothing!!!) Aren't you tired of being stuck with just a first name of a wife and no maiden name? What I need for each of you to do is to get out your family bibles and your family files and sent me a listing of who married who in Twiggs County before 1901. I will include a source to let everyone know where the information came from, but if you do not want your name mentioned, then I will just say "Personal Family File". Looking forward to hearing from each of you. Tonya www.geocities.com/thcrosby
Thanks, Tonya; this is sure to be a big help. Archibald Ham married Olly Ann Kelly I have no idea when but I THINK it was around 1835. Tonya, Here's a couple for your list: 1. Gideon A. Allen married Mary Ann Horn(e) in 1828 in Twiggs County, GA. The source of this information comes from Mary Horn Allen's obituarary in the 26 January 1899 issue of The Bossier Banner seen at the Bossier Parish Library in Benton, Louisiana. 2. Joab Horn(e) married Isabella Davidson on 4/11/1843. This was his second marriage. I believe the union occurred in Twiggs County because Joab lived there as he appears on the 1840 census as having land. Source of this information comes from the Census Records and the book "Twiggs County Georgia Record: A Reconstructed Heritage", by Bess Vaughn Clark. 3. Arthur B. Horne married Mary H. Stanley on 9/23/1833. Not 100% sure if this occured in Twiggs County. Source of information was the book mentioned above. -Cary Allen allensofmarietta@earthlink.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tonya Crosby" <thcrosby@bellsouth.net> To: <GATWIGGS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 19, 2002 4:44 PM Subject: [GATWIGGS] Marriages > Dear list subscribers; > > I am starting a new database and will work on getting this online as soon as possible, but it can only be successful with your help. > > Since the courthouse burned in 1901, there are no marriage records for Twiggs County before that time. 1. John Everett b. 1784 Edgecombe County, NC m. 1823 , Twiggs, GA Anne Lee b. Unknown - Source: eMail Richard Wilson 2. John Barrett Everett b. 30 May 1827 m. 26 Dec 1852 , Twiggs, GA Josephine Elizabeth Bullard b. 18 Apr 1837 prob. , Twiggs, GA - Source: "History of Twiggs County, GA" and eMail Richard Wilson. Contradiction between HofTCG and Wilson, one says Josephine, other says Elizabeth. Since both Josephine and Elizabeth are names extant in her descendants, I choose to believe her name was either Josephine Elizabeth or Elizabeth Josephine. Since one of her grandchildren, my much-loved greataunt Jo, was named Josephine Elizabeth Everett (b 1899, d. 18 Apr 1990 Hawkinsville, Pulaski, GA) I incline toward Josephine Elizabeth. 3. Henry Daniel Everett, Sr. b 21 Jul 1857 , Twiggs, GA m. 5 Sep 1888 , Bibb, GA Annie L. Knox b 1869 , , GA - Source: FamilySearch LDS Database. Although they were married in Bibb County, they lived most of their lives in Twiggs County at Bullard until they retired to Jacksonville, Florida. Annie L. Knox died in Jacksonville in 1932, and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Macon, Bibb, GA. H.D. Everett, Sr. died in 1941 at his son's home (A.C. Everett) in Macon. In the spirit of this post, in the likely event that anyone researching the above will be interested, I will also say that three of the children of H.D. Everett, Sr, lived together in Hawkinsville; Aunt Jo and Aunt Marguerite never married. Annie Rowena Everett b. 9 May 1893 d. 10 Nov 1989 m. Edward Oliver Daniel, prob in Hawkinsville. Aunt Jo, Aunt Rowena, and Aunt Marguerite (b. 11 Dec 1903, d 1 Sep 1986 Hawkinsville, Pulaski, GA) all lived together in peace and harmony for many years.
