Prior to early 1800's passports were issued for families traveling through Creek Indian territory to places to and from what became Twiggs County. Can anyone on this list direct me to the following reference, "Passports of southeastern pioneers 1770-1823: Indian, Spanish, and other land passports for Tennessee,Kentucky,Georgia,Mississippi,Virginia, North and South Carolina" by Dorothy Williams Potter, 1982 Gateway Press. Or better yet, anyone with access to this reference that can do a lookup for me? I am searching for families of John Allen (or maybe his sons Gideon, Green, or William Allen) and Abisha Horn(e) (or maybe his son Joab Horne). All believed to have come to Twiggs from NC during the early 1800's. Quite possibly prior to the formation of Twiggs in 1809. Any help or suggestions on the use of this reference would be helpful. -Cary Allen allensofmarietta@earthlink.net
If you are in Marietta, GA the Georgia Archives isn't far from you and would probably have the book you refer to and also may have the original passports. I will look at our Washington Library Genealogy Archives on my next visit there and see if I can find the book and let you know if I do.
