Charles Blankenship has provided us with a list of 1813 Senators. I'm trying to get on-line a listing for all the Senators or Representatives for the Counties of Georgia. If you have access to a list, please share it. Also if you know more about any of these men listed here, please share. These were obviously leaders of early Georgia and influenced the lives of all of our ancestors. In fact some of these men later had counties names after them, i.e. Matthew Talbot (1767-1827). 1813 in Georgia was a pretty exciting time -- From the Journal of the Senate of the State of Georgia, Monday, 1st November 1813. Major John Hatcher (Wilkinson Co.) was my g.g.g.g.grandfather. Before moving to Wilkinson County in 1810, Major John and his family lived in Warren County, GA where John served in the House of Representatives from 1805 til 1809 when the state capital was in Louisville, GA. John and his wife Mary Brady were members of Long Creek Baptist Church in Warren Co. and moved their church membership to Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Wilkinson County. John served as a Senator from Wilkinson County until 1820. Before the American Revolution, John's father, Robert Hatcher, had moved to Richmond County from Virginia. It was in Richmond County that John married Mary Brady in 1779. In 1780, the Hatcher family "fled the protection of the British" and went to Edgefield County, SC where Robert's brother Benjamin Hatcher lived.. During the American Revolution, John Hatcher, his father Robert Hatcher and three of his brothers, Jeremiah, William and Henry fought in many battles against the British. Major John returned to Georgia after the war as did William. Jeremiah, who lost a leg during the war, remained in SC and became a sheriff in Edgefield Co. Major John served as Justice of the Peace in every county in which he lived in Georgia after reaching adulthood. He served on the boards of several academies and was active in community activies until his death in Wilkinson County in 1835. He is buried in the family cemetery near Toomsboro, GA. An historical marker was dedicated to Major John on Sept. 17, 2000 and was erected at the entrance to his plantation (on Hwy. 112, 7.5 miles north of Toomsboro.) Joyce R.
