Max, When I read the Fellowship Church membership records, the phrase they used was "dismissed by letter". The letter would be produced by that person in their new community church and be accepted "by letter". If someone was expelled, it might give a reason, for drinking or for swearing or sometimes because the beliefs of the Church and the individual didn't mesh.
