The Elizabeth Pate on the 1850 Twiggs is proven to be the widow of the Samuel Pate who died in Twiggs bef. 25 July 1848. The newspaper notices you mention and others in the Union Recorder (beginning 25 July 1848) & Macon Messenger, along with Twiggs Co GA Tax Digest Records and some deeds re-recorded after 1900 establish this wife and children. Family histories [proof not listed in them] state that Samuel Pate was married prior to this wife, and had other children. Census records substantiate this. I am a descendant of one of these other children, Stephen S Pate, who moved on to Randolph Co GA. These old family & county histories state that Martha M Pate married a Wood. I had thought it likely that Martha met & married a neighbor since several families were nearby with children of the right age. Where did your William Jennings Wood & Martha live on the 1860 & later census records? Do you know when they married and when she died? I do not know anything about the Sapp Family Cemetery. Thanks again for replying. Lindy
